🤔 Sɪᴍᴘʟᴇ Lɪғᴇ Tʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛs 💭
This'll be what I'm thinking about. Whether it be from books I've read to experiences I've had, you'll find all sorts of stuff here. The purpose is either to entertain or give some life advice, so I hope you enjoy if you're interested!
Hedonism, the philosophy that teaches that life is about attaining the most pleasure while avoiding as much pain as possible. Is that really a good way to live your life? With Hedonism, it's more of an individual philosophy, so how about Utilitarianism? Similar idea, except with providing the most happiness for all humans. When living your life, every choice you make under Utilitarianism needs to be done in such a way that the most happiness possible comes out of it. I just started thinking about these philosophies today because I remembered learning about then years back.

I started thinking that most people would be considered Hedonists in today's society, as everyone does everything they can to pleasure themselves, whether it be by food, sex, games, or some other material thing. In fact, I am guilty of this myself in some regard, as I seek pleasure and avoid pain, but there is something different. I suppose my views would align better with that of a Utilitarian. My individual actions promote my own happiness, but also discipline myself so that I can be happier later. Although this still falls within the realm of the Hedonist, as later on I will be happier, therefore there is more pleasure. However, where things differ is the kind of discipline I have leads me to avoid certain pleasures that most would actively pursue. Not only that, I also live my life in such a way that I seek to benefit others as much or even more than myself. This provides happiness for many rather than just myself while sacrificing certain comforts that would have led to greater pleasure for myself, which is therefore not Hedonistic.

I wonder what I would be like and how I would think if I abandoned my Utilitarian ways in favor of a more selfish philosophy? I'd probably have a normal job where I wasn't helping anyone, I would probably cease all of my volunteering, and I'd more than likely have a poor attitude and temper. I'm glad that I was raised the way that I was and made the choices that I have, as everything in my life has led me to this point and shaped my personality for the better.
