Good morning again!
Last full day in England today. Despite the fact that we will be leaving for France, so it’s not exactly an unwelcome change of venue, I am nonetheless a bit wistful about the upcoming move. Certainly, we need to get moving before my friend gets too tired of us razz It’s been a lovely visit, and she’s a tremendously fun person to spend time with—last night was another “stay up late with word games” event, followed by a stroll down to the local churchyard where she kept trying to hide behind centuries old sarcophagi so she could leap out at us when we strolled by arm in arm. So, we’re still on quite good terms biggrin
I’m going to miss a bit of the coziness of the English Country. Yesterday we visited Wells, a small town you’ve never heard of, and went for long walks along narrow streets lined with stone houses, more than a few with actual thatched roofs.
Even the “highways” are lined with high hedges, making it feel as if you’re going through tunnels in the undergrowth. I get this sort of an “outdoor sitting room” feel from the whole place.
The last two days have been verrrrrrry mellow, and we’ve been doing SO much writing. Maybe the spirit of Miss Austen has infected me, or perhaps (more likely), when comfortable and relaxed, I find myself typing. I’m getting that approach/approach conflict—I want to run about sightseeing, yet I also want to breath easy, go for casual strolls and sip tea.
And, of course, pet the obligatory pub dogs mrgreen
Well, today (I’m writing this the morning of Friday the 13th) we shall run off to see a local castle, something I haven’t seen in a few years now--cathedrals, yes, but there’s something so magical about castles. It certainly helps that this one is literally in the land of Arthur. Of course, they’re billing it as the “authentic Camelot”, but I’m not sure that’s not just so much twaddle for the tourists. Regardless, like the caves, a bit of twee/tacky doesn’t necessarily overwhelm the fundamental coolness of the underlying subject.
I’ve been talking a lot about our writing exercises. Most have been done with pen and paper, but a couple have been done on keyboard. For better or worse, I’d thought I’d share them on the off chance you might like to read them. They shall follow this entry.
