It's only been a week, but ye gods I'm tired of hearing about this Norwalk virus. I mean, it's horrible, but it's a ruddy flu virus! You're sick for a few days, and then it goes away. It started last week with Mount A and now X has it; we've had 59 students and faculty so far show Norwalk like symptoms, 22 are already feeling better, and it's not a huge deal. Why, then, are people so worked up?
I called home yesterday to talk with Gramma, and she knew I hadn't been feeling well this week. She asked how I was feeling and I told her honestly: Lousy. Her immediate reaction was panic. "Oh my God! You've got Norwalk!" No, I have a cold. stare I would have expected to be a permanent ficture to the toilet after one fashion or another if I had Norwalk... But it's everywhere. It was front page news at home, it's been on CBC, CTV, all over the radio... Why? Because it's highly contagious. Why is it contagious? Bcause, as improved cleaning efforts have shown, the campus in unsanitary, especially the residences. We've kept it under wraps by putting into place new meal hall proceedures that prevent students from man-handling food and plateware. There is now hand sanitizer available, and I've never seen so much soap in the bathrooms. The residences and class rooms are being kept cleaner than ever in an attempt to prevent the spread, and it's working well. Gods forbid they do things like this normally, because between you, me and the fence post, students are not exactly the cleanest people around; I can't count hte number of times I've watched people leave the bathroom without washing their hands. Then they touch plates, food, desks, doors... It's disgusting.
So enough about Norwalk already. Let's address something we can actually do something about, like the filth people was living in and spreading because they don't think that basic hygene applies to them.
