Shadows of Fear, Chapter Nine (Yes, it's FINALLY up!)
I blinked my eyes open as the sunlight poured over me.
Today was the day.
The day I was gonna destroy John Auburn and make him pay for all the pain he caused me.
For Dan.
For Trent.
And for Mom.

Within a couple hours time I found myself staring up at an old abandoned building, shivering in the cold wind that had suddenly picked up. Dark gray clouds loomed overhead, fitting in with my mood perfectly…
Dreary and scared with dark thoughts haunting every corner of my mind…
“Ready, Sky?” Sil asked, not taking her eyes off the building in front of us. I nodded weakly. The butterflies in my stomach started acting up.
She and I were there with Saphy, Embsy, and Alex.
“C’mon, let’s get this over with. I want him dead,” I muttered, my anger quickly replacing any second thoughts I was having.
He DID kill half my family, after all…
Our group slowly turned a corner into a darkened alley to discuss the plan one more time.
Saph, Embs, and Alex were to create as much of a distraction as possible and try to battle any henchmen or whatever that came along while Sil and I tried to find John.
The other three ran off to the front while Sil grabbed my hands and flew us both to the roof. We’d enter through there and try to find John as best as we could. As soon as my feet brushed against the rooftop, I let go of Sillie’s hands and dashed over to the edge, lying on my stomach and looking down just as the others disappeared into the building. I laid there for a while, waiting for Embsy’s signal stating that all was clear, something nagging at the corner of my mind all the while. I quickly pushed it to the back of my mind and soon, a fireball blazed out of one of the windows into the alleyway.
“That’s the signal!” I cried, scrambling up to my feet. Sil quickly got up and ran over to the door, flinging it open, and we both raced inside.
It wasn’t long before we got to John’s lair.
And the shadow person.
And John…
Sillie kicked the door open and we both rushed inside, my heart pounding in my throat.
And there he was.
Just standing in the middle of the room, as if he were waiting for us…
And he was.
“Ah, Silverfire and Skystar. How nice of you to join us,” he said, mockingly polite.
Us?” Sil questioned.
“Yes, Sil. Us.” A second figure came forth at his voice.
I screamed.
That was her.
The shadow person from my dreams.
And the shadow from the warehouse…
“Well, it seems as though Sky knows our little guest, but what about you, Sil?”
Sil just stood there and stared, the shadow person staring back.
“Shadowfire, please, introduce yourself to Sil,” John said, looking over at the shadow person.
“With pleasure,” she hissed, rushing forward, knocking Sil into the hallway and slamming the doors behind her.
“MOM!” I screamed on impulse. I would’ve gone after her, but John had rammed me into the wall. “Cheater,” I muttered, wincing as I stood up. “A fair fighter would let me get ready…”
“Very well, then, Sky. You have…two minutes,” he said with a smirk.
Two minutes was more than enough time.
I quickly transformed my necklace into a guitar and created an energy disk, hopping on top of it and turning around to face John.
He glared at me for a minute before charging. Clutching my guitar, I quickly dodged him, letting him run into the wall. I fell off the disk, though, sliding on my back a couple feet before I jumped up and hurtled the disk at him. He spun around and jumped on top of it.
That wasn’t supposed to happen…
As I stood there, too shocked to move, he came charging at me, ramming me into the wall again. I let out a shriek as he grabbed me by the neck of my shirt and lifted me off the ground, my guitar sliding off my shoulder and crashing to the ground. Blood trickled down from a cut on my cheek and one on my arm. John lifted me up so that his face was really close to mine and said, “You’re a fool if you think you can take me on alone…” He threw me aside, my back hitting the wall a couple feet above the ground. I fell to the floor in a clumsy heap, breathing heavily.
If I could only get my gloves off without him noticing…
His boots clunked on the floor, getting louder as he came closer.
My eyes widened with fear.
His icy hands curled around my neck and he lifted me off the ground easily, holding me suspended in the air as he just glared at me.
“Why?” I choked out. “Why are you after me?”
“Because, with your powers, you are seemingly unbeatable to anyone else, and I want to make sure you never face me in the future. I want you dead,” he hissed, taking a gleaming dagger out from behind his back and held it close to my face. “See this? It’s the same dagger your dear mother used to kill your brother. You should be happy…Not only will you be able to see your entire family in a moment, you’ll also die the same way your brother did.” He smirked, and everything started going fuzzy.
“Say good-bye forever!” He started to bring the dagger down, but something hit him in the back of the head and his arm fell to his side. A green tennis ball rolled into view and Alex’s shouts filled the air. John finally let go of me and I fell to the ground in a heap. I stared at the floor, smiling.
So he cared for me too…
I closed my eyes, everything going black…

There I was, standing all alone in the darkness, an eight-year-old in a simple white dress.
Except I wasn’t really alone…
All around me, shapes started forming and began to glow, all of them melting into people…
People I know…
The darkness that surrounded us started to melt away into light, and I could finally see where I was.
…I was standing on a cloud.
“You did it, Sky,” a woman’s voice said from behind me. I turned and stared into the face of…
I couldn’t believe it…
Right there, right in front of me, was my mom…
Not that fake shadow…
My REAL mom.
“You saved us.”
I turned to my left to see Dan smiling at me.
“Nice job, Sky.” A hand settled on my shoulder and I looked up to see my uncle’s face smiling down at me.
I smiled back, tears forming in my eyes. I wiped them away and looked around me.
Everywhere I looked I saw people I loved.
My family, my friends…
And I was happy…

“Sky?”
I knew that voice…
“Sky?!”
A soft shaking passed over my body, and a drop of water landed on my cheek.
“No! Don’t die! You can’t die…”
I tried to open my eyes to see what was going on, but I couldn’t.
“I love you…”
More water droplets landed on my cheek.
I could only open my eyes a crack and give a small smile before everything turned black once more...
