"Oh young Cari, why must you leave so soon?" Dana asked with all the expression she could fit into such a line.
"I have to do what I must." Sasha replied as she walked off.
"Perfect!" Ms. Chapman applauded. "You two will do great in the play tomorrow!"
Sasha smiled. She was an eleven-year-old girl with short, brown, and curly hair and green eyes. She loved acting and loved receiving praise even more.
Dana nearly pushed her out of the way. "Why thank you Ms. Chapman! I won't let you down!" Dana was twelve, a blonde, and even more important, among Sasha's enemies. She loved nothing more than being the best. "Let's go girls." she said as she hopped offstage, a group of girls trailing behind her.

"How was the rehearsal?" Danielle asked Sasha as they walked down the hall together. Danielle was Sasha's best friend. She had long, black, hair with blue eyes and a few extra pounds who too, was eleven.
"It went great. Ms. Chapman thinks we're ready for tomorrow." Sasha smiled.
"Well, I'll be there to wish you luck." Danielle replied. "But right now, I gotta go. Bye!" she waved as she ran to math class.

It was the night of the play and Sasha was extremely nervous.
Okay, all I have to do is say a few lines and end the play. she thought as she stepped out onstage.

The play was nearly over and it was about time for Sasha to say her final line.
"Oh young Cari, why must you leave so soon?" Dana said.
At that moment, Sasha froze up. She tried to say her line, but nothing would come out of her mouth. She looked out at Danielle who tried to keep a smile of encouragement on her face. She turned to Ms. Chapman who looked horrified as she tried mouthing her line to her. But it wouldn't help. Sasha was so embarassed. This had never happened before and the whole school was watching!
"Scene" was the only word Sasha was able to say as she collasped on the stage.

"Wake up." Danielle said as she gently nudged Sasha awake.
Sasha looked up. "I can't believe this could happen! I had one line left and I chickened out! I'm going to be the laughing stock of the school!" she cried as she ran out the door and to her house.

"Scene!" Dana mimmicked the next day in theatre arts. All the girls sitting around her were laughing.
"Can you just shut up all ready?" Sasha pleaded as she sat a few seats away from Dana.
"Aww, but where's the fun in that?" she laughed as she pretended to faint.
Sasha couldn't take it anymore. She ran out of the class and into the girl's bathroom to cry. She was shortly interrupted by Danielle. "What's wrong?" she asked laying a hand on Sasha's shoulder.
"Dana." Sasha replied. "I hate her so much! I hate acting so much! Maybe I should tansfer out of theatre arts."
Danielle frowned. "Don't do that. I know how much you love acting and you would really regret it later. It was a one-time thing that won't happen again."
Sasha looked up at her. "Maybe you're right. I just wish I wasn't in a class with Dana." she said wiping her nose. "I'm going to go back to class now." Sasha told Danielle who simply nodded as she walked off.

"Okay class, we will be starting a new play that we will perform in two weeks. I will be handing out scripts and if you think you're interested, tryouts are on Friday morning." Ms. Chapman said handing each student a script titled, "How to Love Giraffes".
"Make sure you don't kill it." Dana teased as she glared at Sasha.
"Class dismissed." Ms. Chapman announced while everyone got there things together to go.

"I don't think I should try out." Sasha told Danielle after class.
"Well I think you should. Don't let that one mess-up get you down." Danielle replied trying to smile.
Sasha looked up at her friend hopefully. "I just don't know if I want to take another risk like that so quick."
"Hey fatty, are you still hanging around with Miss Faints-a-Lot?" Dana shouted as she walked by Danielle and Sasha. This made Danielle furious. She hated being teased, especially about her weight. "What did you just say, retard?" she shouted as she ran to slap Dana across the face.
Dana and the girls around her stopped. Even if it wasn't the best insult, Dana had never been called a retard before and had never been slapped before!
"Oh yeah! Look who's talking?" Dana hissed back as she punched Danielle in the stomach.
Danielle pinned Dana against a locker and repeatedly punched and kicked her until she fell to the ground. "Think twice before you call me fat!" Danielle said as she calmly walked away from Dana and the group of gawking girls.

"See? Dana wasn't that tough." Danielle laughed
Sasha gave Danielle a high five. "If you have the power to beat Dana, then maybe I have the power to try out for the play.
Danielle smiled as she saw Sasha run off to review her lines.

"I love you Spot." Sasha finished kissing the air and bowing.
"Well, you were very good and I think I'll give you another shot at performing, so I'll give you the part." Ms. Chapman said.
Sasha was over-flowing with happiness and excitement. She wouldn't mess up this time. Now, she had to go find Danielle to tell her the good news.

"Congrats!" Danielle exclaimed as Sasha skipped along beside her. "I'll be there again to wish you more luck."
Sasha glanced Danielle a grateful look. "I can't wait to ace this thing!"

Two weeks had passed and Sasha stood behind the curtain of the stage looking out at all the poeple. "I can do this." she murmured as she stepped out and started to perform.
She was doing great. Now all she had to do was close the performance with her final lines. "I love you Spot." she said confidently and loudly as she lightly kissed the huge stuffed giraffe on the set. She had done it. As she took her bows, she looked out at the crowd to see Danielle smiling up at her.
