“You ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
“Kay. Let’s do this.”
Amy and Micky walked through the front door, trying to act casual. Hoping to obscure their anxiety, they searched for any familiar faces.
“So many people.” Amy muttered to Micky. Amy was always the one to makes comments in a situation such as this.
“Well it is high school.” Micky commented back. Micky was one of Amy’s best friends, one of the few people that could put up with her need to remark on everything, and the way she treated life as a joke.
“True, but that means more hot guys.” Amy smiled.
“And bitchy girls.” Micky countered.
“Eh, we can take em’. Most of em’ just don’t want to mess up their hair anyway.”
Micky laughed at that.
“Hey look, there’s Grace!” Amy pointed across the open area they happened to be standing in, changing the subject.
“Awesome! I’m going to go catch up with her. Come with me?”
“Sure.” Amy replied. But just as she was about to follow Micky, a voice stopped her.
“Amy!”
“Mattie!”
Amy turned to hug Mattie, another of her best friends. “How was your summer?”
“It was fun while it lasted.” Mattie replied once Amy let go of her. “And Micky! How was your summer?” She was now hugging Micky.
“It was quite delicious thank you.” She licked her lips.
The three giggled.
“Yay! I’m so glad we have our group back!” Amy announced, just loud enough for the other two to hear.
After one group hug, the girls set off for class.
Once Amy made it to her locker, Mattie had gone solo. As fate had it, Mattie didn’t have any of the same classes as her. And Micky had to stop at her own locker before she could meet up with Amy again for homeroom. So, Amy saw this as the perfect opportunity to do a bit of guy shopping. She labeled each one as he passed. Ugly, atrocious, obese… Ooh! A cutie with straight brown hair and what looked like blonde highlights crossed over to Star Watson. Great, just her luck. She always got all the guys. A bit reluctantly, she decided to watch, so she could at least spring in if he got rejected.
She watched him strut right up to her. “Hey, that’s a nice piece of meat you got there.”
Star glared at him. “What the hell?”
Amy saw Star slap him across the face. Ouch.
‘I guess I should go see if he’s okay.’ Amy mentally decided.
When Amy had reached him, Star had already walked away, leaving him on the floor.
“Need help?" Amy offered a hand out.
The brown-haired guy took it, flashing Amy a look of thanks.
“My name’s Amy, Amy Taylon.”
“I’m Elliot, Elliot Williamson.”
“Nice to meet you Elliot.”
“Ditto.”
As if they had run out of things to say, there was an awkward silence. Micky came up behind Amy, looking Elliot over.
“Hey Amy, we have to get to homeroom.”
Amy looked up at Micky, a small hint of annoyance clouding up her eyes. She turned back to Elliot. “Well, I guess I’ll see you around Elliot.”
“Okay, bye Amy.”
Once Elliot was out of earshot, Amy uttered something to Micky which was barely audible. “You always come at the worst times.”
“Take a seat class.”
Amy and Micky picked two seats next to each other. Luckily they had first period together too.
“First off, welcome to Westyn High. And welcome to Pre-AP World History. My name is Mrs. Stinjay. Now, let me take role. Hmm… Makaila Beth?”
“Here. I go by Micky.”
“Oh alright then.” Mrs. Stinjay replied, making a mental note.
Amy zoned out waiting for her name, which was a ways down the role sheet. Her train of thoughtlessness was interrupted rather quickly when a conversation between Lil JJ and Paco drifted to her.
“Hey, did you hear about how Star b***h-slapped Williamson this morning?”
“Hah,” JJ snorted, “he’s a total f**.”
Amy spun around. “You mean Elliot Williamson? He is so not!”
“Is too. See, my gaydar goes off like that,” he made a loud beeping noise to prove his point, “when he’s around. Either you’re blind, or you don’t wanna believe it.”
Micky decided to take an interest in the conversation. “Who’s Elliot?”
“I’ll tell you later.” Amy said in a hushed voice.
“Was he that one guy you were talking to when I came to take you to homeroom this morning?”
Lil JJ was now intrigued. “Amy likes a f*****t!”
“Micky!” Amy hissed. “And ******** quit it Jason Justice.” She mumbled, then finished with a wink in his direction at the use of his full name.
JJ rolled his eyes.
“… Amanda Taylon?”
“Go by Amy, Teach.” Amy leaned back in her chair smiling.
“And I go by Mrs. Stinjay.”
“Aw, but where’s the fun in that?”
Ignoring Amy, Mrs. Stinjay moved on with role.
About halfway through class, note-taking was interrupted by the sound of a door opening. Everyone’s heads turned to see a petite girl with short, brown hair and braces standing in the doorway.
“You’re about forty minutes late young lady.” Mrs. Stinjay informed her.
“Sorry.” She replied. She turned to address the class. “I’m new here.”
“And what’s your name?”
“Kylie Randeen.”
