D.Gray Theories
I never write here. So why am I deciding to do so now?
...
Because I'm bored. xD And my one little post so long ago seems lonely by itself.

So what shall I talk about in this entry? The title says it all: my own random theories on D.Gray (since it's my recent obsession), where I don't feel like putting anywhere else. All these theories of mine spawned from browsing around numerous D.Gray LiveJournal communities, so...yeah. Some of my ideas aren't really original. xD

Here we go!

Kanda's "Person"

Okay, so even though Hoshino doesn't provide much insight into Kanda's past, we do know that he refuses to die before he finds "that person." Because of his curse (he heals very quickly, though every time he heals, his lifespan decreases), he can get injured terribly, but will not die. That was illustrated in the Matel arc.

So the question is, who cursed him? And is this person the person he's supposed to find?

I've heard ideas that the person he's supposed to find is a woman/girl (apparently based on the way Kanda refers to "that person." I can't understand Japanese, so I'm not sure for myself.). Miyazaki, an assistant or friend of Hoshino's, published a thing called "The Secrets of D.Gray-Man" where he guesses that the person is Kanda's lover.

I personally find this idea impossible and ridiculous because:

1. Kanda's a jerk. 'Nuff said.
2. He has an extreme intimacy complex. He can't even call people by their names (as shown when he calls Allen "moyashi" wink because he hates forming connections/relationships with anyone. He probably sees relationships as liabilities.
3. Kanda with feelings? For a girl? A girl? Pffft. He's willing to kill anyone, leave anyone to die without a second glance. He said so to Allen on their first mission. He's the most emotionless person...ever.

So why do I like him? I just do. xD He's cool.

As such, I believe that this mysterious "person" is Kanda's previous master (perhaps the person who taught him swordfighting), or a person that he respects enough to not refer to him/her rudely. This person could be either a man or woman, though I'm leaning more towards a man. If we go with the whole master idea, it could be that the master cursed Kanda so that he would train and become so strong that he wouldn't get hurt, thus he wouldn't have to heal and decrease his lifespan. And Kanda would have to find his master, perhaps to defeat him in a battle or to show how much he has learned/accomplished. This was what somebody on LJ said, and I thought it was a really good theory. It makes sense too, concerning Kanda's personality (If he has one, haha. But that's another discussion.).

The Heart of Innocence

Ahh, the ever-so-elusive, mysterious, confoundingly complicated Heart. The Earl's after it. The Black Order's after it. So who has it? Or rather, where is it if a person doesn't have it at all?

The obvious choice would be Allen. I mean, he's the main character after all, right? And he's strong, destined to be the "Destroyer of Time," take down the Earl, etc. The next part may be spoiler-ific, so I'll put it in white:
But Tyki ripped off Allen's arm, thus destroying his Innocence. If Allen's Innocence was the Heart, all the other Innocences in the world would have turned to dust...which didn't happen. Allen's Innocence did survive, and it did save his life, and eventually his Innocence "evolves" and gets reattached, but still doesn't prove that his Innocence is the Heart.

As a result, I actually have a few theories concerning this subject. First, I think it's probable that Lenalee has the Heart. Hoshino's a pretty great storywriter, so I doubt that s/he (since I'm still not sure whether Hoshino's male or female) would go for the obvious and make Allen have the Heart. S/he's probably planning some great twist that'll leave us going, "OMG WHAT?!" But I stick to my idea that Lenalee probably has the Heart because she's probably the next most important main character. As much as I love Kanda and Lavi, they're not major enough to be the possessors of the Heart. Lenalee has also been at the Black Order since a very young age, because the scientists found that she was compatible and had great potential. Her Innocence actually underwent a transformation too, later on, which was apparently unheard of.

Also, this might be a bit of a random shot in the dark, but I've been analyzing the third ending sequence too. In many of the scenes, Lenalee is shown seperate from the other Exorcists, with either her back turned towards them, or she's standing up while everyone else is laying down. I interpret that to mean that she's supposed to stand out from the rest, either from her abilities, her having the Heart, or...maybe simply because she's one of the only females. Lenalee also seems to have prophetic dreams, and even a telepathic connection with her brother, which may say something.

And if not Lenalee, I also think that the Heart may be seperated into two or more pieces, and when the two or more possessors of the Heart (perhaps Allen and Lenalee?) come together during a critical moment, the true powers of the Heart will awaken. Either that, or a future character may possess it. Or maybe it's still hidden somewhere in the recesses of the world. There are many possibilities, really.

Lavi - ラビ

Okay, so there's not really a big controversy about Lavi (or so far, I think). So I just want to talk about him, since he's probably one of the hardest characters to understand in the whole series. =D I want to focus especially about his role as the future Bookman. A Bookman technically isn't supposed to have "emotion" or bias, nor is he supposed to develop any particular feelings or attachments for anybody. Considering Lavi's personality, I find it kinda hard to believe that Lavi will really become the next Bookman, even though he's destined to succeed the current one. When I see how he teases Allen and Kanda, takes care of Lenalee, and acts like the glue that holds them all together, it pains me that he'll literally have to forget their current relationship. And because I'm a bit of a yaoi fangirl, I find that his relationship with Allen and Kanda may be a bit more than just platonic friendship. xD -shot- But seriously, though. They've been through so much together.

So I really wonder whether Lavi's capable of such a thing, or whether he's willing to give them up. The Bookman now always has to remind Lavi not to become too hot-headed, or not to get involved, or not to show emotion, etc. "A Bookman must always observe from the sidelines, without choosing a side."

And though Lavi appears at first to be a happy-go-lucky character, he's really so much more than that. He can get extremely serious at times, and he's actually really smart too, being the Bookman-in-training. He's got an amazing memory, able to memorize just about anything. And deep beneath his happy exterior, I think he really does worry about a lot, including his future and his duties as a future Bookman, along with Allen's fate. If anything, his happy exterior probably covers up a lot of past sadness, though not much has been revealed about him either. Darn you, Hoshino, for leaving us in the dark all the time!

---
Anyway, though I could keep going, I still have some homework to do. And I'm getting tired. I don't want this to become extremely, unnecessarily long, though it probably already is. xD;

P.S. - I also thought it was interesting how today is White Day. ^^

'Til the next time, I bid you adieu~
