Lesser [in] MOTION
If we have our whole lives ahead of us, why is there so much behind us already? Lesser [in] MOTION (c) is my new series of theme art, devoted specifically to the meaningful nothings of everyday life. The biggest little things that make time stand still for a moment while we step back and find a piece of ourselves that we didn't know was there before. Ask why. Look down. Break the rules. And when the 'Big Boss' says jump, tell him to shove it and walk out. You don't belong to anyone. But you can't truly face the world on your own if you don't take the time to understand yourself first. Who are you? How far would you go for the ones you love? How do you define love? Would you jump off a cliff and drop into the ocean 200 feet below to save someone? For a thrill? For a rush? Would you bungee jump from the Golden Gate just to feel the adrenaline surge through your veins? Where do you want to be in a year? Five years? Ten?

There are tons of questions that people don't take the time to ask themselves. Planning for the future is convenient, but not essential. What is important is that you take the time to understand yourself. The best thing about living in the moment is that you can take the time to step back and figure our who you are. You learn from every experience, not because you planned to, but because you just...do.

Everything you do just because you feel like doing it will teach you a little about yourself. I went to the county fair one summer with my best friend. On the far side of the grounds was a crane from which you could bungee. I didn't think. I just did it. Because I wanted to. Because I felt like doing it. I finally did something on a whim. And that? That was the breakthrough for me. I finally discovered that I had no idea who I was. I also discovered that the girl who jumped just because was the girl I wanted to be. And after a few more experiences much like that, where I did something crazy just because I felt like it, I found out that I am that girl. I find another piece of me in every meaningful nothing that comes along in my life. Maybe it's not extraordinary like bungee jumping. Maybe it's writing a song. Maybe it's drawing something that hits home. Maybe it's finding understanding in perfect silence. Or maybe it's just an afternoon with friends, just hanging out being ourselves.

It doesn't matter what it is. If it moves you, if you feel it in your gut, if it gives you even the slightest glimpse inside your own soul, then it's worth more than a hundred years of planning. If you focus on the future, you miss what's happening right here, right now. And then it's over. You missed your life. You ignored it because you were too busy planning. Because you were too afraid of the future to just let life happen. WHO CARES ABOUT TOMORROW?! We'll figure it out when we get there! All we have right now is just that. Who we are right now. That's it.

But believe it or not, that's all you really need.

Think about it.

Well-written. And worth the space.
The other journals I've seen are repulsive.

I'm totally digging your art theme, too. Wonderful idea. I'd be very interested to see some of it when you're finished.

Nice job; keep it up!

(Pardon my French) More power to you!
You know that I am not quite as out going as you, but I know exactly what you mean.
