Future Role-Play
Cyberpunk role-play!
Back in his apartment, Hideko sat, hunched over his computer, scouring the 'net for new clues. Out of the corner of his eye he saw his glasses flashing rapidly. Realizing that he had forgotten to sync them up with his computer, he plugged them in to begin the data transfer. Once complete, he saw that the woman that he had marked earlier today had left a mark somewhere. Apparently she had checked in to a nearby hotel, a moderate room, though not big enough for someone who had a private jet. "This just keeps getting more interesting...." he thought to himself. He sat lost in thought for several moments, thinking over all possible plans and contingencies (although, to an outsider he would have looked as though he were merely spacing out). Finally he decided to act. Grabbing only the necessary equipment (his glasses, computer, and some high-end, very illegal surveillance equipment), he set out to see what it was about this woman that made her so different.

Alas, it was not to be as her cell phone started beeping loudly. Jumping up, she picked up her bag and began rummaging through it. Why couldn’t she have remembered to put it on vibrate? There was, at least, some good news in this. Her employers never called her on a line that could be traced, so it had to be one of her friends. Grabbing it at the last second, she dropped her bag back on the floor as she sat down on the edge of the bed.

    “Hello?” she inquired.

“Hey, Su. How’s it going?” was the animated response.

Sumaira just kept from sighing as she formed her answer, “This really isn’t a good time, girl. I’m going to be pretty busy for a while, so I’d prefer if you not call me. Not to be rude or anything, but you know how it is.”

“Oh, got ‘cha. All right then, I’ll talk to you another time. I understand, so don’t worry about it,” she said, seemingly unperturbed and as chipper as ever.

    “Thanks,” she praised.

    “Bye!” each chimed at once.

With that, both hung up, with Sumaira switching her phone to vibrate before putting it back from whence she’d retrieved it. There hadn’t been much she could have said, as the information was strictly confidential. Her friend, commonly known as Brie despite her real name being Braelynn, was in the same type of business. Though she was a bit more reckless than herself, her positive attitude had often saved her in difficult situations. That one thing being something she couldn’t help but to envy slightly.

Deciding a nap wasn’t going to happen now, she sat trying to think of what to do. Though she new the basics of her mission, Beijing was so big that she hardly knew where to begin. More information on her suspect might have been nice, but she didn’t trust the Internet, and there probably weren’t any books that would help her. Shaking her head, she tried to be optimistic. However, the longer she sat there, the more impossible her objective seemed to become. Then again, who was she to define impossible after all she’d made possible?

Waiting out in the lobby, Hideko scanned the various crowds of people moving in and out of the doors at the entrance of the building. He had the womans image up in his glasses and so far none of them matched. Sighing, he pulled his bundle of surveillance equipment (disguised as a parcel of groceries) closer to him. Now he was beginning to get frustrated. There was no way he could wire her room while she was in there! Realizing that she may not come out for a while, he began devising a new plan.

“Well, I’ve got to start somewhere…” she thought with determination.

However, she wasn’t planning on getting much done today. All that had been expected of her was that she get to her destination and settle in. Though she usually strove to go farther than that on her assignments, just to impress, she decided against it. This time, she was going to relax with the free time they gave her. They constantly forced her to be on the move, and no matter how much she didn’t want to admit it, the whole thing was tiresome.

Leaning back again, she stared at the ceiling blankly. Her head was elsewhere, her surroundings out of focus. Instead, her mind calculated the exact times she should have certain objectives completed. The schedule she had made herself spanned all her thoughts. There was so much to do, and yet things were still so uncertain, some refusing to line up in her brain.
