I woke on the beach next to the cliff wandering what in the world had happened. There didn’t seem to be anyone around which worked for me. Time for a bit more exploration. I took a step and reality seemed to ripple. This for me was no biggie.
Reality had been rippling for me for some time now. I took a second step and saw the searchers.
-Whoa, what goes on? Does this mean I have to stay put? But, I want to explore this place. I know I’ll have to pay the piper eventually but I wanted to see a bit more before that. - I took a step back and everything rippled again. I sat down and closed my eyes, trying to figure out what to do.
In my mind I saw the beach, up from it was a thin belt of trees, then a meadow, which became savanna. From there it became a bigger, thicker belt of trees, a forest and then rain forest and on to mountain scrub. It became mountains and then desert followed by another stretch of deepest jungle. One day I would explore and come to know it all, I was sure of it.
The air rippled again and there was a flash of overcast sky.
Then Gerome was standing in front of me.
“Gik, I said bolting to my feet. I thought I’d bopped him good.
He saw my expression. “Yes, you did hit me a good one. It was very neatly done for an amateur but I can tell you haven’t had to use your skills in genuine confrontation before.”
“You’d be right but I’m willing to have another go at it whenever you’re ready.”
“Not likely,” He leveled a kick at me and I stepped in and dumped him flat. I lost hold of him on the way down though and so jumped back. He rolled and kicked my legs out from under me. I broke fall but stayed on my back. Against one person I’m quite powerful when I’m on my back. Even Sensei can’t get near me… or at least not easily. Gerome didn’t have much luck either. He ended up on his butt, which didn’t slow him down a lot. He leaped and I ducked and rolled. Not quite fast enough. He came down on my leg. “Arrrgh,” My knee had gone again. A brief shot of pain but my knee was definitely not functioning smoothly. This could be a problem. That moment of distraction was all he needed. He seized me, dragged me to my feet, tied my wrists behind my back and locked a bar across my throat.
As he dragged me off, the air around us rippled, then shattered. The searchers where now clearly visible and I got another flash of overcast sky.
“Whoa, trippen. Just so that I know I haven’t completely lost it, did you just see the air around us ripple?” I asked vaguely. My head was buzzing and my knee was definitely not happy with things.
He didn’t answer me and he was pretty stone-faced and serious.
-This doesn’t bode well - I thought. I tried to struggle but he’d tied me pretty well and I was suddenly feeling very tired. –Heh, I’m guessing the adrenalines worn off big time. Not doing well here. Nhh, how does he move so fast? That just isn’t normal… but then again, normal hasn’t been on my register for the last couple of months. Ever since I started having those tripped out dreams. It shouldn’t surprise me that these guys move like snakes!-
