Chapter 3: First Mission
It was two years since the first day of camp. They had finally graduated and were now joining the regiments. Each regiment consisted of six people. Each thought out and recommended by their leaders.
So who do you think will be partnering with us, asked Zach
That would be me.
Everyone turned around. A girl walked in, she had red hair and violet eyes. Her hair came down to her knees. She seemed to have an aura of someone who was important. Her name was Ritsuki. She had only one short sword at the side of her waist.
Wow she’s pretty hot, said Zach.
May heard him and hit him on the head.
You seem like a pathetic bunch, said Ritsuki.
Who are you calling pathetic, said Zach.
Suddenly Ritsuki was behind him with her sword by his neck.
You.
Kai knew better he looked behind him and saw Zach sitting in a corner.
Nice try, but you still need to be faster, said Zach.
There was still an image of Zach where he was last but it slowly disappeared.
Well, well looks like you have some talent, said Ritsuki.
Says you, what was that for?
I just like to know about others and their abilities.
Well why did you attack me?
You looked easy enough to beat.
Ya, ya, whatever, said Zach.
So this is the 23rd regiment right, said Ritsuki
Yep, and I heard that we get some of the good missions too, said Nami.
So what do you think our first mission will be, said Kai.
That was answered sooner then he thought. May came back into the tent with a letter.
Hey everyone this is a message from our sergeant, said May
23rd regiment, your first mission will be to assassinate the leader of a group of rebels that left the Country of the Phoenix. They are currently hiding in the neutral country on the west side of the country. We however do not know at the time who is the leader. That is all; prepare to leave tomorrow.
Ah man we have to go back to the neutral country said May.
Oh well, everyone pack up, we’re heading out, said Kai.
Hey Kai, what do you think Ritsuki can do? said Zach
I don’t know but more importantly shouldn’t you be worrying more about our mission. I don’t like it there is to little information to go off of.
Ya, ya whatever, said Zach.
They arrived at the west side of the country.
Ok well split up into two groups. I’ll go with Zach and May. Max you go with Nami and Ritsuki. When you spot the enemy base give the signal.
They all split up and spread outward.
May was the first one to see the base. She got Zach and Kai and they gave the signal.
Ok I don’t think we’ve been spotted yet, said Kai, lets move in.
Behind us! said Nami.
Everyone turned around. There were twenty of them there already heading toward them and then everybody scattered.
Kai found himself with Ritsuki and only five people behind them. He took out his swords. Ice erupted from the end of one making a wall between them. Then fire erupted breaking the ice and going towards the attackers. Only one caught fire and went down. The rest had already caught up and engaged Kai in battle.
It was getting hard. Where had Ritsuki gone?
All of a sudden everything slowed down. Kai was engulfed in light, then darkness. Then everything went back to normal. Everyone was gone except for him and Ritsuki appeared next to him.
I’m not even asking, said Kai.
Good I’m not going to tell you, said Ritsuki.
They hurried on they found Max and Nami fighting and Zach and May close by. Kai went to help Zach and May since they seemed to be having more trouble. Ritsuki followed but she seemed tired. He couldn’t think about that now. He knew Zach would need help since he would get tired soon. May already looked like she was hurt. There were five people attacking Zach and May. Kai came up from behind and froze two of them and then used his fire sword to cut through them. Zach was appearing everywhere around one of the people. A constant barrage of knives, it looked painful. May tripped one of them and kicked him in the air. She then jumped above him, and proceeded to punch him until he was unconscious. Ritsuki had disappeared too and she used the same technique as earlier on the last opponent. When she reappeared she was breathing heavily. May had a cut in her side, but it didn’t appear to be too bad. That’s when Kai remembered, there were still ten more opponents left. That meant that Max and Nami were probably in trouble. Kai left searching for Max and Nami. He arrived thirty yards from them. They were completely surrounded. There were still ten more left. Kai started to move forward. Then he saw all ten attackers jump at Max and Nami, he knew he wasn’t going to make it. Black shot from Max’s sword and white from Nami’s. Each person started to fall, completely overwhelmed. They couldn’t even get close to Max and Nami. Kai showed up next to them he was to shocked to even talk. Max seemed fine but Nami acted like she was tired. They met up with the group and deciding there were no more guards left to the entrance of the base.
They probably know were here so be careful, said Kai.
Ha, that was probably their whole army, said Zach
Sigh; does anyone ever try to beat sense into this kid? said Ritsuki
Ya I’ve already tried, it didn’t work, said Kai.
Ha, ha, ha, you guys are so funny, said Zach
Ok well for the most part it looks like its clear, said Nami.
Lets move forward, Max, Nami, and May you go to the east side and enter there.
Zach and Ritsuki, you follow me into the west side entrance, said Kai.
Be careful when you enter, it only looks like a one room building though.

Each group moves to their position and enters. When they enter they see a dojo with one man standing in the middle. No one else is insight.
Surround him, said Kai
We have come to assassinate you for your betrayal to the Country of the Phoenix, said Kai
Oh really?
Kai turned around just to see that the person he was looking at just seconds ago was now behind him. The man punched him and Kai went across the dojo and hit the wall. May came over to Kai first.
Kai, Kai are you ok?
Yeah I’m fine, said Kai.
Kai looked up to see Zach disappearing and re-appearing around the dojo with the man.
Fine if that’s how he wants to play, said Kai.
May, Nami, and Max go support Zach. Ritsuki come with me.
Ritsuki, can you do that move that you did before?
I don’t know, the most I was told to do in a day is two, said Ritsuki.
Fine, protect my back; I don’t want him hitting me from behind anymore.
What’s wrong with this person? He’s not even using a sword. All he was doing was dodging. This is perfect thought Kai. If he wants to underestimate us, that’s fine. All six of them surrounded the man and attacked. Kai was thrown backwards. He looked around everyone else had been thrown back. He looked at the man. He was standing, except not on the ground. He was two feet of the ground in the air. What he was holding was a rod that looked like it was made of glass. Although to most, it would look like it was made of air.
Let me introduce myself the man said. My name is Aaron Nero.
Fire erupted from the ground at the man. Except that the fire wasn’t touching him. It seemed to move around him.
Dang, said Kai, I thought that would work.
Hmph as if that technique could ever touch me, said the man.
Aaron ran at Kai, only to be stopped by Zach. May jumped over Zach and came down like a hammer with her wave swords. She stopped one foot from him. A shield of air was protecting him to.
What is this guy? asked Ritsuki.
I don’t know, said Kai.
Max and Nami appeared both struck down at Aaron. He simply dodged it.
Oh, what’s this, said Aaron.
He disappeared and re-appeared behind Max. He swung his rod down. Max blocked it. All of a sudden a flurry of strikes rained on Max and he collapsed. Nami ran to help him but she was knocked across the room and was knocked unconscious. Kai had never seen anyone beat Max before. Aaron kicked Max across the room.
Well there goes your strongest fighter, said Aaron. What are you going to do now?
Zach appeared and swung his dagger down. Aaron was barely able to dodge.
Oh, you’re going to give me more fun? said Aaron.
The air around Zach seemed to be vibrating. Then knives came from nowhere at every angle. Aaron started to deflect them but he eventually became overwhelmed and he jumped in the air. Zach appeared behind him and kicked him to the ground. More knives followed and Aaron escaped just in time. Aaron turned around and blocked more knives that were headed behind. Zach appeared right behind Aaron and punched him across the dojo into the wall. Zach seemed do be doing so well but when Kai was finally able to see him he looked exhausted.
Ha ha ha ha, yes this is what I’ve been looking for, said Aaron.
A presence came over Kai, he almost collapsed.
How much energy does this guy have, said Kai.
Aaron appeared and hit Zach in the stomach. He then hit him in the air and appeared above him to hit him in the ground.
Come on, come on, come on, where is that energy that I was fighting against earlier, said Aaron.
He hit Zach to the ground and stepped on his arm. Ha you’re a joke to. He broke Zach’s arm. Ritsuki and May both jumped up and started to head towards Aaron.
Wait no, said Kai.
Aaron made two slashes in the air and both Ritsuki and May were thrown backwards unconscious.
Well this was fun while it lasted, it has been a while since I’ve had to release that much power, said Aaron. Hmm what’s this?
Aaron turned around and looked at Kai. Kai had stood up. His eyes had turned half red and half blue. His swords were glowing and so much energy was coming off them that objects started to burn and freeze by themselves.
Fine if you want a fight I’ll give you one, said Kai.
Oh, can you back up those words? said Aaron.
Kai raised one sword up. Ice blasted out of the end and went towards Aaron. Aaron jumped in the air but the ice followed. What is this? Ice for a Phoenix soldier! You are definitely interesting child! Aaron looked behind him a stream of fire was coming. The ice and fire crashed together.
Nice try, said Aaron but like I said before that technique won’t work.
Kai’s image slowly disappeared.
What won’t work, said Kai.
Aaron disappeared to the other side. Blood ran from a cut on his shoulder.
I see, well if that’s how it is then I might as well use all I have, said Aaron.
Aaron started to run at Kai. Kai pointed his sword at Aaron and fire erupted from it.
Too slow, said Aaron who had appeared behind Kai.
A flash of ice appeared, sending Aaron to the other side.
Well I guess I have to finish this in one blow then huh, said Aaron.
Fine by me, said Kai.
A bird appeared behind Aaron made of air, followed by a great power. The ground broke around him. Lets see who is more powerful now, said Aaron.
Oh, said Kai, sorry to disappoint you but I don’t have anything that cool looking.
Both charged at each other. There was a giant flash and then an explosion. Kai was on his knees trying to stay up. Aaron came over to him.
Heh, good job kid, you mind me asking your name?
Its Kai, said Kai.
Kai huh. Aaron collapsed onto the ground. Kai managed to stand up and drag everyone over to the middle. Zach was the only one that was still conscious.
We sure showed him huh Kai.
Kai turned around I guess we did, didn’t we.
He reached into his pocket and got a headphone piece out. Mission accomplished. Ready for evacuation.
I don’t think we did to bad for our first time, said Zach.
Neither do I, said Kai.
A helicopter landed outside and paramedics came in and took everyone aboard. Their first mission was completed and done. They were on their way home.
