I staggered a little leaving the room but this time nothing stopped me. The twins dithered and dragged and generally acted normal. It made me smile but I could feel the tears building up behind it.

-Well, at least they get to be normal… They might even help me retain my sanity and balance in this screwed up situation. Eh?- I heard the shower going. –Has he got some place to be?- I wondered vaguely. What I really wanted was to crawl back into bed and seek oblivion for a while. Had a feeling that wasn’t going to happen though.

“Who’s that?” asked ‘Netie.

“That… well, you know all that stuff I told you about yesterday…”

Titch: “I thought that was a nightmare.”

“Heh, so did I until this morning but I guess I’m not that lucky.” I cringed, clutching at my head and leaning against the wall. It felt like someone was squeezing me head in a vice. Finally I straightened up. “Okay, that really hurt… what the heck was that about?! In any case, I want you two to stay as far away from him as possible okay? And that damned Gate House of theirs too. Also, I don’t think we should tell mum about this. She already thinks I’ve got a couple of screws loose. If I try and explain this she’ll think I’ve completely lost it! Arrgh, wish I’d never heard of that damned Gate. I think it’s safest if I keep the rest of the family and what’s happened to me as separate as possible. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to live here anymore. It’s all very stressful. I’ll just have to see what happens.”

“Won’t mum and Amryn know anyway?” Titch wondered practically.

“I doubt it,” I said wryly, “If I’m anything to go by that guy and his mob can muck with peoples heads as easily as you or I could suck a lollypop. If any of those mongrels try that crap on my family though, I’ll kick the stuffing out of them. Still, I think it’ll be up to us to keep them from finding out. I don’t wont you two mixed up in this mess either as far as possible but at least you’ll have some clue as to what’s going on.”

“Okay,” they agreed.

“Great. Now hurry up, you’re running late again.”

In the kitchen Titch asked, “Can you get away?”

“I wish,” I shook my head tiredly, “I tried that already. That’s how I came back here. According to that Ger guy, the only way I get out of this is if he lets me go and somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon. I think I’m going to need you two to help cover for me… um, sorry.”

“It’s okay,” and Titch hugged me hard and then went to watch T.V.
