Well, I'm sure my signature makes it clear that I'm staying with Zero Omega (most useless omnimod on Gaia talk2hand heart ), and as I've said five million times, Fanime this past weekend was my first ever convention!
Soooooooooooooooooooo.... recaaaaaaaaaaaaap! (and if I missed anyone's name in any of these, let me know and I'll fix it - it was just very hectic and I'm not sure I remember everything right Dx)
We missed pretty much all of Friday as we were on a train from Los Angeles, but we got there around 9:00 or so, I believe, and proceeded to wander in the direction of the Hilton, finally running into Zelyhon partway there and then discovering we never would've found our way there alone anyway.
We didn't have our badges yet, so we couldn't really do anything, but we went to the convention center and met with Rosamaine, Seraphim Call, FanFicGuru, and TweedleKeys. We went up to Rosamaine's hotel room while Zely finished up some stuff, where we met with WhiteJoker, Noraboo, and Jakobo.
On the way out, there was a rather amusing moment of running into Daihouou/Phoe, whom WJ immediately tried to tackle-hug.
We went back to Zely's for the night and all, and then started Saturday by grabbing breakfast and batteries. We met Rosa and Seraphim and ran into several people while wandering around artist's alley and the dealer's room. Got to meet Hilaroma, who is freaking adorable whee Zero bought me a wonderfully oversized Kuromi model and I picked up some magnets for Kinetic Dream, who couldn't be there. Sila-Chan (who also couldn't be there) planned with me for buying WJ a gift, and I split an art commission with Rosa for him as well.
The Gaia panel was Saturday night, and since we were hanging around with some admin, we went in with them and Zely, Hila, and I got to sit with the staff (which really.... as nice as it was to be in front, you kind of miss out on free stuff since they skip over the staff for that, BUT Zero asked DJ Hellsing for the last watermeat plushie as he was running by, so he gave it to us). It was pretty interesting - there was some stuff about the MMO, an adorable marriage proposal (one of the staff members got in line during questioning and asked his girlfriend, another staff member, to marry him. It was so cute!!), and very many hilarious or ridiculous questions as well as a few good ones.
Afterward was the staff dinner, which Zero had asked Dri if he could bring me to since he couldn't really just ditch me in San Jose, and then WJ said we should bring Zely and Hila too, especially since Zely was letting us stay at his house. It was a lot of fun. I'm not super-fangirly, but at dinner, Zero and I sat across from DJ Hellsing and Lanzer, so we talked to them a bit and it was honestly pretty cool. It was so much fun, and it was also nice that everyone was so friendly even though I wasn't a staff member because at first it felt kind of like "Er... I'm out of place."
First thing on Sunday was the AMV finalists showing, which was great. There were some fantastic videos there. We went to A.L._Eileen's hotel room with some people, picked up lunch and went out for ice cream, and then after hanging around the con for awhile, went out for dinner and to see Iron Man, which some of us hadn't watched yet (and which was pretty good).
On Monday we took Rosa to the airport 'cause she had to leave us for Canada sad
But we wandered around the dealer's room along with Hila a bit, and I ended up with a rice-ball plushie, lolita headband, and we got a couple gifts. Saw the AMV winners, and then Zero, Zely, Seraphim, and I went out for one last lunch together, then headed over to one of Zely's friend's places with Phoe and FFG to play the most terribly frustrating board-game ever.
That night Zely and FFG had to go back to school, but Zero and I stayed in San Jose for one more night and took the train back to Los Angeles yesterday.
As horrible as I am at summarizing things, it was a ton of fun. I've never been to a convention before, and I was really nervous, especially about meeting people I knew online, but everyone was pretty awesome and I'm so glad I went.
AnimeExpo probably won't be as awesome, but it'll be nice to at least see Zely, Keys, Eileen, and maybe a few others then.
And next year there's New York ComicCon, which WJ has said I have no reason not to go to, since I live in New York state and NYC is only a few hours away. I'll probably be staying with Era718 for that.
And now... Time to finish cleaning Zero's room so that I can actually live here gonk
