if dogs could talk3
Gruff nibbled at the strangers shoes, barking and yipping all the while. The stranger picked up Gruff by the mid and raised him to eye level. “This mutt’s got a lot of fight.” The stranger said amused. Almost as though he was waiting for him to say that, Gruff snapped at the stranger’s nose, missing by near centimeters. An evil smile drew across the strangers face and he said, “I’ll take him.” The farmer raised an eyebrow and said, “You don’t want him! He’s just down right vicious! I’ve got another one in the barn, he’s very passive, and-” “No… No, I’ll take this one.” The stranger interrupted. “What’s the runts’ name?” The farmer scratched his head out of distraction. No one ever really interrupted him before. “His name? Um… It’s gruff. ”Why do you want a vicious dog?” The Farmer asked confused. The stranger gave a sinister smile and said, “Me and a couple of friends have a little betting- thing going on and we need attack dogs for it.” The farmer removed his hat and scratched his head. This was always a sign he was clueless. “Well o.k. I don’t really know what you young’ins are into these days, so I wont dig into it.” “How much?” Asked the stranger shortly. “Fifty bucks and he’s yours.”

The farmer didn’t know what the Stranger meant, but I do. Our mother warned us about people like him. They train dogs to fight each other to the death for stuff the call. “Money”. They have no disregard for our lives. If we’re dieing in front of them, they will just through us in the street to die. Mother told me and Gruff that that was what happened to father. She told us that humans are cruel and evil. “Even the farmer is,” She would say. “Mark my words, someday; when you’re older, he will try to sell you to humans.” Of course me and gruff didn’t believe her. The farmer had been nothing but kind to us! He would feed us, give us milk, play hide and seek, and he never even so much as raised his voice to us. Even when we chased the chickens, he would just laugh and say, “That’s enough now.” Now however I see that mother was right. Humans are evil, and I had to try and stop the stranger from taking Gruff too.

I ran out the barn door, moving as fast as my little paws could take me just as I reached where the stranger was, his car was moving out of the pebble paved dive way and out to the street. As I reached the fence post where the farmer’s farm began, the car was too far out. Just as it was rolling away I could see Gruff’s little paw on the windshield, saying it’s tearful good byes, but all to quickly a hand rose and struck him out of the window. The moment the hand stuck Gruff I was filled with rage, I hated humans. I hated them all, especially the farmers. “First Father was taken, and then Mother died, now Gruff has gone for good,” I thought. The worst part was that it was my fault. I couldn’t’ save Father, Mother, or Gruff from the humans, I hated my self most of all.
