Color My Murder
Uh.
Poem 9
Set The Stage for My Life

The days when love meant cuddles and kisses, when families meant friends, when therapists weren't needed or ever heard of, when drugs meant bad, when cutting wasn't an option 'cause you couldn't reach or find the knives, when sun meant swimming and maybe ice cream, when sex meant marriage, when teachers were your mommy and daddy...

The days when love meant lust, when families were something just before enemies, when therapists weren't cool, when drugs meant relief, when cutting meant freedom, when the sun meant cancer, when sex meant condoms, when teachers meant boring idiots...

The days when love meant friendship, when families meant dis-connected or disappointed, when therapists were cool, when drugs meant brain chemicals, when cutting meant cowardice and a reminder of the past, when sun meant fun, when sex meant passion, when teachers meant your mistakes...

The days when love meant laughs, when families meant dead, when therapists weren't there, when drugs meant nutrients, when cutting meant adolescence, when sun meant relaxing, when sex meant time we didn't have, when teachers meant your children, your grand-children, who taught you more with each passing day than you could possibly know...

But when love means love, when families mean families, when therapists are therapists, when drugs are drugs, when cutting is cutting, when the sun is the sun, when sex is sex...
That's when you know you're at the right stage.
