Chapter 6
(This part is told through Rita, and the story is now in first person)

My black foot slammed the door to the sushi shop, and I aimed my glare toward the shape-shifter at the counter. He smiled smugly and I pulled my lips back showing my teeth and the man flinched.
Stupid shape-shifting hypocrite, kicking me out of the shop with my order and the phrase that shifters weren’t allowed in there. I snapped my jaw at he door, careful not to drop my transparent green bag. Trotting with my tail up high, I headed home.
Even with my eyes closed, I could see the stares of mortal eyes as the citizens watched me. I was an unusual sight; a black wolf with a green sushi bag and a red butterfly painted on the back wasn’t quite normal but still, it was rude to stare. Keep walking, nothing to see here! I wanted to say.
I opened my eyes at the traffic stop, standing by some gossiping female mortals, obviously heading toward that dreaded marriage ceremony at the palace.
“I heard that she wasn’t going to marry a prince, but her knight!” a brunette spoke, laughing more like a dying duck than a human.
“Yes, but that’s only a rumor! Though I did hear that prince Keigou was acting strange. I’m sure he’s just exited; you know how the eldest sons are. Trying to be the best,” the women with black hair cropped short said, sighing. Obliviously, there was a little crush forming here.
“Oh, but did you see the way he looked at his knight, the last time they where announced? Like her being only another life to risk for his own was torturing him inside?” the brunette said, making it sound like question.
This piece of information was a bit interesting, but I planed on crossing the street now, not caring what the black-haired girl thought.
I stepped forward, nearly losing my goods in the bag in my mouth as my upper body went forward. I felt a cold sting and quickly examined my paw. A puddle, a freaking puddle filled with mud. My shirt was going to be clearly ruined!!!
I clamped my teeth down on the green bag that held our dinner, and dashed across the street, ignoring the horns of cars, cursing of humans, and the two people who nearly killed each other in order to dodge my unexpected crossing. I barked a laugh nearly rolling on the floor, when I saw a couple faces from the cars.
“Rita, Rita, Rita. Tsk tsk! Even if mortals are stupid, that doesn’t give you any right to do that,” a chilling familiar voice came from be hind me. I quickly transformed in to my human formed and turned around to face it.
“Get out of here Damian. I don’t need you to reprimand everything I do,” I snarled, looking up at my half-vamp nemesis.
Damian laughed, his pale skin glistening against the bright sunset. His collarbone-length hair swept back, and his eyes were, if I remembered correctly the same shade as mine. If he wasn’t a total half mortal idjit, I’d think he was a Greek god, minus the Greek part.
“Don’t tell me I bothered you already!” the half-vamp complained to me as I stalked away toward my apartment building. “Where’s the fun in that, I ask you?”
“Go away, freak,” I muttered, and I knew he heard me.
“Whoa! Hold up a minute!” Damian said, easily keeping my pace. He was clearly offended. But I had to say, damn the half vamp powers; even though he was only changed enough to be healed from a car accident (not nearly enough to be a true vampire), he was still granted with half the powers. I mean, sure he had moderately fast speed, but not as good a real vampire. He had no fangs to have blood, and he thirsted for none. Well, except for a squirrel or two.
Damian continued his counter. “You call me a freak, when,” he paused taking of my black captains hat off to show my black ears, “you happen to be a mutant?”
I ignored his remark, but turned around to kick him in the shin. He gracefully dodged it, and twirled away. I jumped for my hat, but he kept in away easily. Finally, I kneed him in the groin. He immediately dropped the hat, and fell on the ground moaning in pain.
“Yes, because the only thing I’m half of is cat. And I use that to my advantage,” I purred, jumping over him, and walking to my building again.
“Rita,” Damian moaned.
I didn’t turn.
“You’re a really big jerk, you know that?” he yelled after me.
I just kept walking, fastening my hat back where it belonged. I was all happy, knowing that I got him down in one unexpected shot, but I noticed my empty hands. I left the bag filled with tonight dinner.
“Oh shoot!” I muttered, jogging back to the spot where Damian was now sitting.
“Back so soon, babe?” Damian kidded, chewing on something.
“What’s in your mouth?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“Sushi.”
Good lord, did he have to be such an a**? “That was our dinner!”
Damian stopped chewing, and stared at me long and hard. I noticed that he never let his smile leave his face. He features changed suddenly, and he erupted into a loud fit of laughter. I stood there, while he rolled on the ground, my eyes wide and mouth open.
“Oh my god!” he laughed without looking at me. “I swear your face as never been so funny looking than right now, Rita!”
I kept silent, trying no to punch the wretch in his mug. My father had said to me, before going to the loony bin, not to kill anyone, or marry you relative’s cat. So I struggled to keep the anger down to a simmer and not an eruption.
Damian got up, still chuckling, and faced me. “Ah, don’t worry about it! I live right next door to you, so I’ll bring over my dinner later, okay? Or, have Sabrina make something. She’s home, right?”
“Yes, she is home,” I murmured, “but she has a fever.”
“Then I’ll eat at you place,” Damian said, laughing again.
“No you won’t!” I snapped, glaring at the black haired fool in front of me.
His eyes looked wickedly amused, and his smile grew larger. “Why not? What ever did I do?”
I walked back to my designated area, fuming. He was right beside me, keeping pace again. I looked up at the blacking sky, inhaling the smell of Armonie. Floral scents wafted by, followed by smoke from fireplaces, and some sort of nasty cologne…
I turned my head to find Damian looking down on me, eyes pleading and his arm touching mine.
“If you can cook some that can cure her cold, you may come over,” I said, less aggravated.
“Thanks, Ritz,” Damian said, using a nickname only Bree was aloud to call me.
We walked through the door to our building and up the stairs to floor four, stopping in front of my room. I listened for Sabrina and Yuki, seeing if either of them was sleeping.
“This guys gotta say deal,” I heard Yuki say.
“They’re gonna say no deal, Yuki,” Sabrina laughed.
“You can’t read minds through the T.V.,” Yuki countered and I laughed.
“But you can watch repeats from time to time,” Brina said.
They both laughed.
“Cute, cozy couple, huh Rita?” Damian asked in a low voice.
“Nah, but you can tell Yuki wants to be. Really badly too,” I said, grabbing the key on top of the door way. I unlocked the door, and let my guest and myself in.
“I’m home guys,” I called.
