Unlikely Heroes
Chapter 2: Madame Ingrid, the Eye to Hell
"A fortune teller?" Edgar squawked. That's what the sign indirectly said: 'Madame Ingrid, the Eye to Hell'. "What's wrong with her?" the raven asked his undead human friend. Lucy smirked at him and said, "It's not just her. It's fortune tellers in general." "Why?" Edgar asked. "As a killer, I like to sneak up on my victims and fortune tellers could ruin that." Lucy explained. "I see." Edgar nodded, following Lucy to the door. Lucy held her hand up and stopped Edgar from coming in with her. "What?" Edgar asked. Lucy said nothing, but pointed to a 'No Pets' sign. "Oh..." Edgar sighed. "Bloody 'No Pets' sign." Edgar flyed up to the sign and perched there, waiting for his friend to return.
Lucy walked in, the bell above the door going off. "Hello?" Lucy said to the empty room. 'Madame Ingrid must not be here yet or something.' she thought to herself. "Is anybody here!?" she shouted rather impatiently. "Yes..." a mysterious voice responded. A gypsy woman emerged from the back, her long silver hair reaching to her shoulders and a transparant veil covering her mouth. "I am." she said. "You don't need to shout." The woman sat down at the table and gazed at the crystal ball in the middle of it. "I am Madame Ingrid..." she said mysteriously. "The famed Eye to Hell." Lucy cleared her throat and started, "Nice to meet you. I'm-"
"I know who you are." Madame Ingrid smiled up at Lucy. "You didn't need the hat. You're Lucy the Satan Worshipper." Lucy's eyes widened. "H-How-!?" She stammered. Madame Ingrid pointed at the crystal ball. "I saw you coming." she said with a coy smile. "Well, that ruins the whole surprise." Lucy scoffed, flopping down the chair opposite of Madame Ingrid. Holding her hands a few inches off of the crystal ball, Madame Ingrid asked, "What brings you here, undead one?"
Lucy reached into a pocket of her overcoat and pulled out the slip of paper that she copied the tatoo on. "I was hoping you'd tell me what this means." she said, bringing it up to eye level. Madame Ingrid gasped upon seeing it. "W-what?" Lucy gasped. "Th-that tatoo!!!!" Madame Ingrid stammered, keeping her eyes down and pointing at the slip of paper, her hand trembling. "Y-you're being targeted! By him!" "...Him who?" Lucy asked, cocking an eyebrow at the gypsy. Madame Ingrid glanced from side to side and leaned forward, whispering, "Mephistopheles." "Mephistopheles?" Lucy repeated. "The Devil?" "Not the Devil, per say." Madame Ingrid said. "But he is a demon. He was the very demon that tempted Faust and lately, I've been getting vibes from him, saying that he wants to wipe out all the horror in the world so he can once again be the one true terror."
Lucy scoffed. "He doesn't scare me. Where is he? I'll kill him myself." "Oh, it won't be that easy." Madame Ingrid warned her. "No one person has ever taken him on and lived..." Madame Ingrid put a hand to her mouth in thought. "But, if you had a faithful team, maybe." Madame Ingrid went into the back and returned with three slips of paper. As she wrote something down on them, she said, "I know of three horror icons that could help you on your quest to destroy him." She pushed the slips of paper to Lucy and said, "Go to these three places and find them. Tell them that you're on a mission to destroy Mephistopheles. More than likely, they're targeted as well." Lucy picked up the slips of paper and held them upto eye view. "And take this in case you need to contact me." Madame Ingrid added, handing Lucy what looked like a compact mirror.
"Just tap the glass in the middle and it will contact me." Lucy put the compact and papers in her pocket. "Thanks, Madame Ingrid." "Oh! And one more thing." Madame Ingrid added. She handed Lucy a bottle full of sleeping medication. "When you go to 1408 Elm Street, I think these will help you contact him."
