Dyer's Eve: Mother
Kage was sitting alone on a stone bench in a dead garden just outside the castle. The flowers were all various shades of brown and black, and each one was wilted and dry yet they all still grew. The bench had vines of thorns crawling up its legs and wrapping around each end. He was 18 now, and a towering figure already for his age and such ancient times. His eyes now held a dark stare, they were un-carring and ruthless, piercing deeply into those whom they fell upon.

As he sat on the cold hard bench he was lost in thought as his eyes stared at a wilting lotus. He searching through his mind for memories that were no longer there. A song without an instrument, a past without a place, a mother without a face. His time in the castle serving the sorceress Alexandra had removed those memories with little effort. With his mind searching he went to earliest memory he could recall.

Flashback

Kage was just 10 years old. He was sitting in his room on the edge of a large bed nestled within the walls of stone that made the castle. The boy was near tears trying to remember his mother. He couldn't remember her face, her voice, nothing. As the boy sat in the dim candle light Alexandra entered the room looking at him with concern. "Dear child, what troubles you?" He looked up at her to see the sympathetic look she held on her face. It was new too him and for a moment he was confused, but after a few moments he was able to answer. "I...I can't remember my mother." He said with a soft voice. She gave a small smile as her eyes grew more sympathetic and kind. "Oh child...I'm your mother." She said with a comforting tone as she walked over to the boy and sat next to him on the bed, placing an arm around him. "Y-You're...my mother?" He asked looking up at her. "Ofcourse, I have been since your birth. Come now...do not be troubled, I'm here." With that Kage relaxed and leaned against her, folding his arms across his lap. After a few moments of silence the boy spoke up again. "Can I...call you mother?" She smiled a dark smile that he couldn't see and rested her head on his. "Of course you can my child."

Return

As the memory faded Kage looked up to see Alexandra standing a short distance from him, watching him. "Hello mother...care to join me?" She smiled at him hearing what he had just called her as she walked closer and sat on the bench next to him. "You haven't called me that in years." She said looking up at him, being noticably shorter then he was now. His eyes didn't fallow her as she sat down, they only looked back to the lotus. "...I was reflecting back...Thought it would be appropriate." He said as he looked over too her. "I am pleased to hear it...You have made me quiet proud over all these years." She gave him a confidant look when their eyes met. "I'm glad you are pleased...and glad to have a mother such as you."
