Man the Sesame Street of today is not the Sesame Street I grew up with. Mine had something of a growing story, Elmo wasn't the main seller, the songs the shorts on how crayons were made, how flowers bloomed, things like that.
And my favorite character was and always will be Big Bird. I had this reading learning system from Sesame Street, a few books, movies, and one of my favorites which I'm sad to say I lost was this Big Bird toy in his PJs I think they were blue with a little night cap.
One other thing was that when I was younger my dad took me to the local broadcasting station, you know like the local PBS station. And there I got to see and hug Big Bird, to me that moment was equivalent to meeting Santa (especially since my mom didn't want us confusing the reason of Christmas with the big red man and told us the truth early on in the game).
I didn't learn until much later that inside the Big Bird suit was my mom. She had worked at the station ever since she was pregnant with me, she knew of my love for the bird, I wish that there were pictures of it or at least surviving pictures. She no longer works there but when I see a Big Bird toy pushed back in the corner of a shelf full of Elmos and Ernies, and Cookie Monsters I think of my fond memories of then and what my mom did and get a little teary-eyed.
