Kayden's Random Writings Re-vamped and Re-inspired!
In the east amongst the luxurious backdrop of mountains the sun was slowly setting. The patter of feet as Taye and Misa ran along the path could be heard in the nearby forest that was slowly growing more silent.
The last bits of the light in the east coming from the very tip of the sun were dissapearing and the night became darker. Behind them Saku’s hand moved slowly to the blade at his side. Nighttime in these mountains was always much more dangerous. The night was when spirits were free, when they could take on physical form and wreak havoc. In this land Nighttime was when the foulest of beasts showed their faces...and Saku could not risk being off guard.
Quietly he called up to the two ahead whom he could no longer see, “Slow it down you two...Night time is not a time for fooling around. Night time is a time to relax and let the sounds of nature fill you up...And I don’t need you two getting hurt by the things that lurk in the forest at night! Now slow down or we go back to the village!”
As Misa and Taye skidded to a halt in front of the cabin it was not because of the beauty of the cabin or Saku’s threats. It was actually because of the huge and bulky wolf-like creature crouched upon the top of it. It’s deep orange eyes staring down at them as drool dripped form it’s oversized maw. The creatures fur was as black as midnight and it was covered in an assortment of vicious cuts and gouges. It was a creature known as a Faer. These where one of the most dangerous creatures in the valley. They were what happened when several angry and powerful spirits combine and take on a physical form.
As the beast stared down at the two children shivering in fright Misa was the first to let out a scream alerting Saku a good distance behind them.
Taye, who was scared out of his mind could do nothing like Misa until she had screamed. Her terror and fear drew upon the training Saku had given him. That urge to do for others no matter the cost to himself. Many lessons had been spent having that drilled into his head. Taking out a small dagger he’d been given as a gift while training with Saku he stepped in front of Misa protectively as the Faer on the roof shifted into a pouncing pose.
The Faer stared into the eyes of the tiny creatures below it. It’s inner madness forced it to ready it’s pounce and the angry spirits called it to attack and tear the two into nothing. But it was an odd situation as it always was with spirits. Amongst all the rage and power the spirits had there was always a tinier voice. Telling the Faer not to attack, an honourable spirit. One of good. But that tiny voice was what made fighting the Faer’s so easy sometimes. It allowed enough time for a normal human to react to it’s movements and attacks, without that tiny bit of hesitation in each of it’s movements the Faer’s would be near impossible to kill.
Down the trail Saku was running at full speed. His footsteps were like a rabbits when it was moving full speed and his hand was already on his blade ready to strike at any moment. The blood curtling howl the Faer had let out moments ago had spurred him into hurrying faster and just as he crested over the small ridge at the top of the hill he saw the scene unfolding before him and had only moments to react.
Misa screamed and cowered as the Faer above them flexed it’s mighty legs and hurled itself into a pounce with it’s red claws extended right at the two children. It’s speed was almost blinding and as it shot towards them Taye used every ounce of courage he had to raise his dagger and jump at the creature to try and intercept it’s path and keep it from getting to Misa.
But instead of Taye simply hitting the creature from the side another figure would appear. As the creature slammed into Taye his dagger with a certain amount of luck would ram right into the heart of the spirit creature as it’s maw and claws dug into Taye. From the side Saku would appear out of nowhere using his momentum and the shape of his silvery-white katana to slam it into the side of the creature sending him, Taye and the now dead Faer into a sidelong roll while Misa stood there shivering in fear.
As the three toppled to the ground the Faer’s body would shake and burst into a pile of dust and dissapear within the wind. Saku would be standing holding his blade in a stabbing motion where the creature had been previously and Taye was laying on the ground holding his arm to stem bleeding from an unknown source.
The scene wasn’t exactly pretty but it was the first lesson Taye had ever learned on his own...and many more would eventually follow.
