Puzzles (chap 3)
chapter three

Captian Tao smirked at the duo as they hovered into his room. Nioma had thought that Ateru would place her down, but he continued to cradle her in his arms like a newborn. Ateru, who was much taller than she, saw nothing wrong with carrying her around, she was quite light-weight and it meant nothing to him. Nioma, on the other hand, hated being carried around Captian Tao. He was the father in her life, not that he was her biological father, he just was very fatherly.
“Your letter-bee Captain Tao.” Ateru smirked underneath his scarf that constantly in her face. Captain Tao only smiled and his assistant captian, Amaya Keitaro. You were only allowed to become a captian of you were of a very high ranking. There was a huge catch of course. You had to have an assistant captian, a life-partner. So even if you were the strongest angel ever…if you weren’t married you weren’t qualified.
Captian Tao stared at his wife and life assistant and smiled and held her hand. She smiled back, her long beautiful hair tied up in a neat bun and held out of her face. She took her seat next to his and looked at the duo. She smiled and said in her soft voice, “Why, I remember when we were younger. You carried me everywhere complaining that my wings would become sore and they wouldn’t be as pretty when I was older.”
Nioma jumped in Ateru’s arms and shivered.
“…you okay?” he asked, his monotone voice making the sincere words seem sarcastic.
“A chill…” she mumbled, and looked away. Well the fact was that she couldn’t look away. His chest was to her right and his scarf to her left. She remained in his arms anyway.
“Do you need Nioma-dono still or is she dismissed?” Ateru asked hastily, but his monotone-ness still over-powering his voice. Ateru’s gaze averted downward to Nioma, who it turned out, was fast asleep in his arms, using his scarlet scarf as a blanket of sorts although it was barely enough to cover the length of her legs. He smiled at her and gently ran his fingers over her cheeks. He looked at her wings that were carefully folded underneath her, sprinkling her snowy powder onto the ground and smiling at the simplicity of her body’s rising and falling reaction to her lungs filling with air.
“She has to take a package to the Priests of the Council. But you may take it for her, unless you can wake her. But she’s a terrible grouch when woke.” He smirked. Ateru stood and then as an automatic result, saluted. With his arms up in a salute there was nothing keeping Nioma off the floor, and so she fell and was awoken. She stood up brushed herself off in a very lady-like way and then proceeded to smack Ateru into the…well…the high heavens. Ateru stepped back and fell over onto the ground. Nioma hovered above him, a deadly look set deep within her eyes. Ateru could only chuckle at her display.
“What is ever so funny?” She growled the tone in her voice not nearly as friendly as it once was. Ateru stood up, taking the defensive position. Something wasn’t right, he thought, it’s like she’s a completely different type of person. She was so nice…but now it seems that she is thoroughly evil…

Ateru was contemplating his thoughts and analyzing them, as any true rouge-angel or demon would do. He thought of why she would be so grouchy and then remembered that morning. How tired she looked, how unbelievably warm her hand and forehead was. Yes, the he began to think of how to further diagnose her issues. He came down to two possible outcomes.

One: she was way overworked and needed a break.
Two: she lived alone and had no time to keep herself healthy and was catching a fever or cold.

Three: she was lonely and had no one to keep her warm at night so she just turned into a grumpy old hag.

Truthfully Ateru had absolutely no idea where choice number three came from. He cursed his testosterone levels once again. Nioma’s fighting stance seemed to call him towards her. He licked his lips a little and took his scabbard from his side and, in a lightning-speed motion, lifted her chin and grabbed her hand and pulled her into a type of stance that he’d seen the dancers of the court do when he dropped by to speak with his friend. He proceeded to twirling her about the room, imitating the moves and steps the dancers used. Nioma pulled and pushed away from him, but was secured by his stead-fast arms. Ateru smiled as Nioma stopped resisting and allowed him to do as he did, flowing as one on the floor. His scarf wrapped around her neck as he went into the final spin and pulled her close. For the moment they were in perfect sync, as every good couple is, and even shared breaths. He breathed in and she breathed out. The air about them became de-oxygen-ated (if that’s a word >.> wink . Nioma fell back asleep in Ateru’s strong, but slender, arms.
“Is she always like this?” he sighed, attempting to hide the growing blush that crawled along his cheeks, “She will be a handful to look after.”
“Look after?” Captain Tao asked, “I was only joking about the whole staying with her business.” Assistant captain Amaya touched his shoulder.

chapyer three end.
