My last guard competiton was last night, March 31st. It was all the guards competiting against each other in order to find our ranking in State. Our guard went into State with a 3rd placement, and we finished in 1st! Lampasas Illusion Colorguard is TCGC's 2006 State Champions! I finally received a medal! The GOLD medal! I can't describe the feeling of hearing Lampasas being announced as 1st place! Once they got to 2nd and we still weren't called, we stood there in line, squeezing each other's hands and holding our breath, and gasped when we heard it wasn't us! I hugged the person nearest to me and cried in happiness. We walked to the front to meet our directors, Mrs Harless, Eli, Mr Chappa and Eva as they handed us our GOLD medals! I still get chills when I think of the feeling. Our performance was the best run of the entire season and we did it! We worked so hard all season and we got STATE!!! My senior toss, in the performance, was beautiful! I caught the rifle solidly and smiled huge and the crowd cheered so loud that i couldn't hear the music and came in late on my next move, but no one noticed! 4 years ago, when I first began guard, State was so far away. Yes, the guard had improved since the year before, State was only a dream then. Sophomore year we improved up to 2nd place! That was a good year! Last year, incidents happened and we got bumped up to a higher division at the end of the season, causing us to get the biggest jump in TCGC's state history in state..going in 14th, and leaving with a 6th placement. And this year, my senior year, we got STATE! The trophy is HUGE, the banner is going above the guard door in the band hall, and we each get to keep our medals forever! I'll never forget that feeling I had last night! The feeling I had during the performance, my last performance ever, the feeling I felt after we finished, and retreat, when they announced our 1st place! It all still seems so surreal right now! It was a stressful guard year, long, hard and tiring but it was all worth it! I love all my fellow guardies and hope them the best of luck next year!
