a word of hope what God did for us

Hebrews chapter 2

14.Since the children have flesh and blood,
he too shared in their humanity so that by
his death he might destroy him who holds
the power of death-that is, the devil-
15.and free those who all their lives where
held in slavery by their fear of death.
16.For surely it is not angels he helps, but
Abraham's descendants.
17.for this reason he had to be made like his
brothers in every way, in order that he might
become a merciful and faithful high priest in
service to God, and that he might make
atonement for the sins of the people.
18. Because he himself sufferd when
he was tempted, he is able to help
those who are being tempted.

a bit of history for you back 2000 years ago
and probably still today the high priests would
make sacrifices using goats. this is how it would
work. you would keep this goat with you where
ever you went and every time you sinned that sin
would pass to the goat the reason for this is that
when you sinned you could bring the goat to the
priest and he would sacrifce it to rid you of your
sin. this created sympathy for the goat and
made you not want to sin because you didn't
want the goat to die. think of it like killing your
fav. cat or dog. this is where we get the term
scapegoat. although this practice is no longer
used by christians it is because Jesus
was the perfect sacrifice for our sins and he
has paid for all of them. all you have to do is
