Shadows of Fear, Chapter 4
I was running…
The wind roared behind me, making me fly…
I just wish that I would leave the ground…
The shadow person was chasing me…
I needed to hide…
I had to hide…
“Come on, sweetie, you know how busy Mommy is. Stop running and come here.”
“Never!” I screeched. I had to keep running. The light was just ahead…some where…
The shadow person caught up to me, grabbing my wrist.
“Hold still!” It shouted, losing its friendly tone.
“Let go!”
The shadow person bent down, so close that I could feel its breath on my face.
I was eight again.
“Hold still,” it whispered. “Or you’ll never see your mommy or daddy again.”
“You’ve already killed my real mommy,” I said.
“Then you’ll never see your daddy again.”
“I can’t see him anyways,” I replied. I had turned back to being thirteen.
“What about /him/?”
A light shone down in the distance, growing brighter and brighter, and all of a sudden, it melted into the shape of a boy.
My eyes grew wider.
“Let me go!” I screamed, trying to wriggle out of the shadow person’s grasp.
It didn’t say anything, and all of a sudden, the glinting of a dagger blade caught my eye.
“LET ME GO NOW!” I screamed. I had turned back to being eight.
“Say good-bye, Sky,” the shadow person whispered, bringing the dagger down fast.
I was about to scream…

I screamed and sat up on my cloud, breathing heavily and drenched with sweat, tears running down my face.
“Sky? Are you okay?” Sil asked, sitting next to me. Even though it was dark, I could still see the worriment on her face. I couldn’t lie to her…
“No,” I said, the tears still running down my cheeks.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, making herself comfy.
I started at the beginning with the dream I’ve had since I was eight…
“The strange thing is, the shadow person’s never caught me before…” I finished, staring at my hands in my lap.
“Must be pretty scary…I mean, your mom---err, my future self---is an evil villain, you’re haunted by the thought of her suddenly coming and killing you and you’re haunted by a shadow person in your dreams…How do you manage to keep your sanity?”
“Good question...And I don’t know the answer to it…”
“Here’s a question that you probably /do/ know the answer to: Who do you think the boy is in your dream?”
“Uh…” I could feel my face getting hotter as my left ear drooped.
"You know who it is, don't you?"
"I'm just gonna go to the kitchen for a bit..." I suddenly jumped off the cloud and walked off to the hallways. Even though they were still a maze to me, I think I knew where the kitchen was...
And I was right.
I found it on my first try.
I flicked the light on, rubbing my eyes, and jumped up on the counter. The only reason I came was to get away from Sil.
But, while I'm here, I might as well do something useful, huh?
I transformed my necklace into a guitar and turned the dial so that it'd play regularly, strumming a few chords before I began to play one of my songs. I was so into playing that I never noticed the doors open and someone enter the kitchen. I just kept on playing.
It was only when I had finished the song that the someone spoke.
"That's a pretty song..."
I was so startled that I accidentally flicked the dial to the wrong setting, strummed a note, and overturned the table, letting out a small squeak as I did so.
It was Alex.
"Don't do that, please," I said, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Sorry," he said, stepping forward to help me stand the table upright. After that was done, something important popped into my head.
"Did I wake you up?" I asked, jumping back up on the countertop, my guitar a necklace now.
"Nah, I was awake anyhow," he said, looking around. "Anyways, do you always write your own songs?"
"Yeah..."
"Huh. Are you part of a band or something?"
"No. So, basically, all my songs are solos for the guitar..."
Alex sat down at the table and I just continued to stare at my hands, my left ear drooping. It seemed to be doing that a lot lately...
"Do you like movies?"
"Yeah, who doesn't?"
"What's your favorite type?"
"Well..." I said slowly thinking. It's been a while since I've seen a new movie. "It'd have to be funny, I guess..."
"Unaccompanied Minors is out."
"Really? I've never heard of that one..."
"Oh yeah, I forgot that you came a couple days ago..."
"Yeah..."
Silence.
"Anyways, I should probably get back...I don't want to wake anyone else up," I said, jumping off the counter. "See you tomorrow." I headed for the door.
"Sky? Wait."
"Yeah?" I turned around.
"Wanna go watch Unaccompanied Minors with me sometime?" Alex asked.
"Sure," I said, smiling. I exited the doors and walked back up to Sil's room.
When I got there, Sil was sleeping, despite her efforts to pull off an all-nighter.
I climbed back on my cloud and stared up at the ceiling.
At least I had something to look forward to this week.
I smiled to myself and soon fell back into slumber land, dreaming of light people instead of the shadow person.
And I was happy...
