It's incredible how everyone makes a cheerleader the popular one. I chewed morbidly on a sandwich whiole sitting on the metal bleachers, watching hatefully as my arch nemisis Clara let out that impossibly high shrill whistle like laugh.
Everyone joined in of course. All that was in my sandwich today is tomatos and cheese. Alice had taken that last peanut butter and jelly scraps. That means I have to do the shopping today. And when Alice locked the door, she had to have planned in all out.
My mom worked until 8 P.M. that night and I was stuck outside to face the wrath of heat and mosquitos. There was no revenge for me either, my mom is way too protective of Alice, so I'll bide my time and wait.
Mandy, my friend sat beside me, sneered at my lunch, then went on to whine about a girl who wore the same sweater as her.
A shout came up off the football field, and I kept my eyes on one boy in particular.
His name is Jason and he's the quarterback for the boy's football. I met him in 3rd grade, and had a crush on him ever since. I turned back to Mandy, and hear for the 5th time what she was going to do to that poor girl when she found her.
I heard footfalls and looked up. Jason stood there sweating.
"Mind if I sit here? I'm so tired."
And he went and sat anyway. My eyes bugged out and my mouth probably would have started drooling. I once saw Filbert look a steak the same way. Mandy caught my glance, and an evil smirk grew.
I snapped my attention to her, now panicked.
    "Please don't embarass me!"
I hissed. Mandy stood up to her full height, which is approximately 4'2.
"Ok! I've had enough! JASON! JAMIE! CONFESS YOUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER!"
Then she kicked us both off the bleachers with her feet. I landed face down in the dirt, and Jason was a few feet away from me.
    "Oh my gawd! How EMBARASSING!"
Clara I could hear all too clearly. She squealed and started jumping up and down.
"Jamie and Jason sittin' in a tree. . ."
Everyone else joined in. Jason got up and ran off, not bothering to help me. I staggered upright and tried to pull myself up quickly.
Big mistake. The back of my head slammed up against the back of the monkey bars, which everyone knew were built too close to the bleachers. I saw stars and made a drunken move to swat Mandy.
But she was long gone, already inside the school. I fell down again, this time on my knees. My hand came down on something squishy. The rest of my sandwich.
Now a reasonable person can only be pushed to far. I'm not reasonable to begin with, so what happened next is from them pushing me over the edge. Clara still jumped up and down singing that stupid rhythmn.
I got up slowly, with the sandwich in my hand. I walked over to Clara. Everybody got silent and she stopped jumping up and down.
"CONFESS YOUR LOVE TO THIS SANDWICH YOU -"
I blotted out my profantity for your sake and mine. Then I smashed the sandwich in her face and rubbed it in. Then common sense hit me. Turns out the principal had watched this all unfold. The last thing I felt was grubby fingers grab my wrist and drag me off the playground.
