• NORWAY BEACH
    or
    Waves Without Foam
    by UC Poika

When we arrived at the lake, greeted by the beach
We felt the shade the clouds afforded us
As they moved restlessly across the sky in a crowd
We would gladly have joined had they but been of our kind,
Whose children swam just beyond their parents' reach,
Leaving a worried mother to fume and fuss,
Then finally walk to the beach and cry out loud,
Our fears together with hers in that moment entwined
With concern for a wet bike rider's attempt to teach
Himself how to jump waves--him we found outrageous,
For he'd tried again and again, too drunk,or too proud
To admit defeat was about all he'd ever find!
Then we turned our eyes around and headed home,
Driven by the breeze, Norway Beach, waves without foam.
