"Doumeki!" Watanuki yelled, rushing towards the fallen archer. Doumeki was barely conscious, and he didn't know what to . The other boy's breathing was shallow.

"Come on Doumeki! Get up!"

"He's poisoned," came a voice from behind him. Watanuki jumped at the sound of the familiar voice, turning to see Yuuko, a grave look on her face.

"Is it fatal?"

Yuuko nodded, "He is going to die."

Watanuki's eyes went wide, as he held the now unconscious Doumeki close to him. He shook his head, "He can't die! I won't let him die!"

He could feel tears streaming down his cheeks. Yuuko raised an eyebrow, looking over Watanuki for a moment then adding, "Well, if you put it that way, then there is something you can do. Hurry, help me bring him back to my shop."

Watanuki nodded, doing as he was told, mentally cursing at Yuuko for not even seeming to care about another person's live. Though that was her way, he supposed. Yuuko and Watanuki placed Doumeki on a futon in a room at Yuuko's shop that he had not remembered being in before. She left him alone in the room with Doumeki saying she would be back in a few minutes. Watanuki nodded, watching Doumeki's chest rise and fall with each strained breath. He couldn't help but feel very helpless right now. It was his fault, it was always his fault.

"Please hold on," he said softly, not knowing if Doumeki could hear him, which was very unlikely.

A few moments later, Yuuko was back, an odd looking object in her hands that was golden, and seemed to resemble some sort of animal, but he wasn't sure what. She handed the item to him and said, "Bring this to the Green Drug Pharmacy, and ask for Kakei-san. Tell him that you want to trade this to him for the Serpent's Tears. He is a collector of rare things, and I do business with him sometimes."

"This is going to come out of my pay, isn't it?"

Yuuko grinned like a cat, "Smart boy. Now hurry and get going, you don't have a lot of time."

Watanuki nodded, and he was gone, leaving Yuuko in the room with Doumeki. He ran down the empty road toward the pharmacy, vaguely remembering that was where he had gotten the hang-over medicine for Yuuko. It seemed so long ago that he had been there, had it been a year? Maybe longer? He didn't really remember. He wondered if the store was even still open right now, considering how late it was, but some pharmacies were open all night, and he hoped that this one was one of them.

When he finally reached the drug store, he was happy to see that the lights were still on, but curse when he tried to open the doors, and they were locked. He peered in through the glass door, seeing two workers cleaning up. It seemed that they had just closed and their shifts were about over. Watanuki began banging on the door, hoping at least one of them would hear and look up from their work to come help him. The blond was the one to look up. He came over and opened the door.

"I'm sorry, but we are closed right now," the boy said. This was the same guy who sold him Yuuko's hang-over medicine he noticed.

"I need to talk to Kakei-san. Yuuko sent me to talk to him, is he here?"

"Yuuko-san you say?" the boy cringed, it seemed that he knew the witch as well. He turned around and yelled out to the dark-haired boy cleaning on the other side of the store, "Rikuo? Kakei-san is still here right now, right?"

The other boy nodded, "What does he need? The store is closed."

The blond looked back at him again, not even bothering to answer Rikuo's question.

"I need to talk to him now! It's important!" Watanuki found himself blurting out.

"Calm down, I'm sure it's not a matter of life and dea-"

"IT IS!" Watanuki interrupted him.

The other boy sighed, and let him in, leading him toward the back of the store.

"Kakei-san, you have a visitor. Someone that Yuuko sent."

"Yuuko," growled a man in sunglasses sitting next to yet another blond. How odd, why would someone be wearing sunglasses at night?

"I don't have a problem with Yuuko," the other blond said. He stood up and walked over to Watanuki.

"I am Kakei, what does Yuuko need?"

Watanuki pulled the golden object out of his pocket and handed it to Kakei.

"She told me to trade this for the Serpent's Tears. She said you would have it."

He nodded, "I do, but why do you need the Serpent's Tears?"

"My friend was badly poisoned by an evil spirit, and if I don't get the Serpent's Tears, he will die!" Watanuki was on the verge of tears once more.

"This item is not enough for the Serpent's Tears. Tell me, do you love this person?"

Watanuki's eyes went wide as he said that, but he was too upset to yell like he normally would at such an outrageous question.

"What else do you want! I will do anything... I won't let him die!"

That was enough for Kakei it seemed. The man smiled, then said, "You are Watanuki Kimihiro then? Spelled like April 1st?"

"I am. How do you know?"

"Yuuko says you are a good cook. I want you to make us dinner a few times next week, and that plus this item will be enough."

"Done! Hurry! I don't have a lot of time left!"

Kakei nodded, and left the room to retrieve a vial of bluish liquid, blue as Watanuki's eyes. He thanked Kakei-san, and quickly ran from the shop and back down the road back to Yuuko's shop. He didn't know how much time he had left, and god knows he wasted quite a bit with the small talk at the pharmacy.

Many things went through his head on the way back. Kakei-san had asked him if he loved Doumeki. Did he? And not too long ago Yuuko had asked him why he hated Doumeki, and Watanuki, not being able to come up with a real reason had said everything. Though during the past week, when the two had been dodging each other, it seemed that he was longing more and more to be with the other boy. With the past year or so, with all the things that they had been through, he had come to appreciate the other boy's company. Doumeki did so much for Watanuki, but why? Why would someone do that much for just a friend? They were friends, weren't they? That is what Himawari had said, and each time he had denied it, though he knew it was true, what else would you call their relationship?

He didn't realize he was back at Watanuki's shop until the pipe fox pulled on his neck to stop him from running. He hadn't remembered bringing Mugotsu with him, but he was thankful that the pipe fox had stopped him in time. He patted the little animal on the head, and walked into Yuuko's shop, back to the room they had taken Doumeki too earlier.

Doumeki was alone in the room. Where was Yuuko? He guessed it didn't really matter, guessing that he just had to get Doumeki to drink the blue liquid. He knelt over the form of the archer, his breathing still strained. How was he going to get Doumeki up so he could drink the Serpent's Tears?

He began vigorously shaking the other boy, and yelling out his name, but there was no answer, he wasn't roused at all.

Watanuki sighed, looking down. Maybe he had to give the potion to him by force. He wished Yuuko were here to tell him what to do!

He sat down in a more comfortable position, and opened the vial, moving his right hand to the other boy's lips, and lightly parting them with thumb and pointer finger, then dripped the strange blue potion into the boy's mouth.

A few minutes went by, and still nothing. Watanuki began to grow impatient, and he tapped his fingers on the tatami floor. Doumeki did not wake up. Watanuki began to panic.

"Doumeki! Wake up! Don't leave me! DOUMEKI!"

More tears came now, and he had pulled the other boy's body close to him.

"Don't die on me Doumeki!"

His tears stained the Doumeki's clothes, and his heated face became very wet. It was uncomfortable, but it didn't matter to him. Then in a whispered voice he said, "Shizuka.. I... I love you."
