------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are two phrases that are considered to be the hardest things to say to someone; the first being 'I'm sorry," and the second being 'I love you". And if it is so hard to tell someone that you are in love with them for so many reasons - including rejection, and fear that they might already have a significant other or even like someone else - it must be even harder to tell someone of the same gender that you love them.

And that was just the problem that Doumeki Shizuka was facing at the moment. He sat under a tree in the school yard with Watanuki Kimihiro and Kunogi Himawari, eating their bento lunches like they did every day, of course in different locations each day. He was glad Watanuki wasn't ignoring him after what had happened the previous day, but it irritated him to no end that the other boy either refused to talk about it, or was just pretending that it didn't happen. It must be because of Kunogi, at least, that is what Doumeki thought.

He kept looking toward Watanuki, and each time Watanuki noticed Doumeki's stare, he would blush and turn away, but he wouldn't say anything. Why? Even on the walk to Yuuko's shop, Watanuki dodged the subject. Did it embarrass him? He wondered if Yuuko had found out about it the night before and teased Watanuki about it. That would probably be a good reason for Watanuki to keep quiet about it, and it would most definitely explain his embarrassment. He also probably blamed yesterday's occurrence on Yuuko too.

Doumeki sighed as they reached Yuuko's shop, Watanuki not having said a word during the entire walk, surprisingly enough. He looked back at Doumeki, then let his gaze shift downwards, toward the ground.

"I only have to cook dinner for Yuuko tonight, do you want me to make extra for you?" Watanuki asked, breaking the silence. Doumeki could tell he was blushing, and he was tempted to kiss Watanuki right there, but it didn't seem to be the right time.

Doumeki nodded, but didn't say anything. He didn't expect it to be this weird between them after their first kiss, and he was actually starting to regret it. He wished he knew what Watanuki was thinking right now, but for some reason the usually emotionally boy seemed to be unreadable.

"Alright, well see you later then," Watanuki said, walking through the gate and across the yard to Yuuko's shop. Doumeki didn't leave until he could not see Watanuki anymore, and even then he lingered a few moments more, hoping Watanuki would run back out and embrace him. Of course, that didn't happen.

He walked home, and did his homework, followed by chores around the shrine. It was starting to get dark, and he wondered what was taking Watanuki so long. It was almost 8pm already, and he had walked Watanuki to Yuuko's shop at least three and a half hours before. Something was wrong, he realized.

He picked up his bow, and ran out of the temple grounds to the street, running the familiar route towards Yuuko's shop. When he reached the shop, Yuuko told him that Watanuki had left about an hour prior to his arrival, and thought Watanuki had gone home. Without even a word of thanks, Doumeki ran from the shop and down the road towards Watanuki's very empty apartment. Where was he?

There was a flash, and a vision came through his right eye. He could see and odd looking spirit-creature of sorts, but from the surrounding, he realized that the vision was at the park. That was where Watanuki was right now.

He ran as fast as he could to the park. His heart was racing, and he was dripping sweat. That moron Watanuki, making him worry like this. If he kept going off on his own like that he was going to get himself killed one of these days, and Doumeki would never be able to forgive himself for that. He would not let anything happen to Watanuki!

Watanuki was running as well, his gaze behind him, and not looking forward. Before he realized it, the smaller boy had slammed into him, and would have fallen to the ground if he had not caught him.

"Doumeki!" Watanuki said, obviously glad to see him. He looked back behind him, and the weird creature was only a few yards away. Doumeki let go of Watanuki, pulling the smaller boy behind him, then aiming the bow at the creature. He could see the creature, and he was sure it was only because of his right eye. He mentally thanked Watanuki, even though it was his doing that had granted him this vision.

The creature was too fast for him, and he yelled at Watanuki to run, but the boy was frozen to the spot, terrified. The archer yelled out as sharp fangs sank into his flesh, and Watanuki gasped in horror. He pushed the reptilian-like beast off of him, quickly aiming his boy and finally shooting, as it lunged for another attack. The invisible spirit arrow seemed to be enough to completely destroy the creature, but looking down at his wound, he knew it would leave a nasty scar, and he would need to go and treat it as soon as he could.

"I'm sorry I lost the bento," Watanuki said.

"That's not what I was worried about," Doumeki managed to say. It was getting much harder to breath.

"It's my fault you were hurt! I'm sorry!" Watanuki was at his side almost immediately, not sure what to do now, but suggested they go back to Doumeki's place for a First Aid kit. Doumeki agreed, but as soon as he began to waked toward his place, his chest tightened, and he collapsed.

"Doumeki!" he could hear Watanuki's cry, and it sounded distant. He heard another voice only moments later. A woman's voice, and he knew it had to be Yuuko. She said the archer had been poisoned.
