Movie Review- National Treasure: Book of Secrets
I went to see National Treasure 2 yesterday, so I thought I'd write a review. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures because photobucket won't work for me... sorry.

When I got to the theater at 8:00, it was sold out. So my friends and I bought tickets to the 10:20 show... way past my bedtime. I was kind of pissed because of that, and I was expecting a pretty damn good movie for the two hour wait.

You see, I'm not a sequel girl. Generally, I hate sequels, because most of the time they're just produced to make more money. No other reason *coughpiratesofthecarribeancough*. So I went into this movie with low expectations. And it barely met those.

The Damning Features:

First off, the plot threw me-- in the first movie, the treasure only went back a few hundred years. But in Book of Secrets, it was an ancient Native American city of gold... which is ridiculous. I mean, how would -anybody- know about that? The movie leaves that small part out... we never get any clue as to how anyone found out about it.

One of the things that bothered me the most was that -everybody- hooked up with someone. Ben got back together with Abigail (they were seperated), and Ben's parents (who hadn't even talked with each other in over 30 years!) hooked up. It was so cliche it hurt me to watch. At the end, even Riley found a girl.

Last thing- the humor in the movie was incredibly forced and scripted. It didn't feel natural at all. So were the riddles... I liked the cleverness of the riddles in the first one, but in BoS they were stupid.

The redeeming features:

The visual affects were amazing-- the last part of the movie (in the city of gold) was gorgeous to watch.

The guy that played the president was great... and the fact that Ben "kidnapped" him was cool.

The villian didn't -completely- reform by the end... he -unwillingly- saved everyone.

Breakdown:

Starting with 10/10

Plot: -3
Hook-ups: -2
Stupid humor: -2
Riddles: -1
Visuals: +1
Prez: +1
Villian: +1

Total: 5/10

It wasn't a horrible movie, but it wasn't quite worth the $7 I paid to see it... it might have almost been worth the $4 I would have paid had we gone to the cheaper theater. Might. Basically, wait for it to air on TV in a few years.

BTW, I'm going to see Sweeney Todd next week, so expect a review ! I have high hopes for this one.
