I sat bolt upright in bed as the dream (or whatever) released me, only to slump back with a groan. Whatever had really happened yesterday the leftovers of it had definitely caught up to me today. This didn’t bode well for this whole thing was just a nightmare scenario. Not that I’d actually expected that idea to hold water but one can hope.
-Actually, I’m still feeling pretty mangled.- I thought in reply to a silent voice I thought I’d heard inquire after my health.
It was about then that I notice that I wasn’t in the bungalow anymore. I was in my own bed in my own room… and I wasn’t alone. It took a few seconds to register but there was someone else in my bed.
To my credit I didn’t shriek, squeak or otherwise make a peep. He watched, coolly amused, as I started, backed up and fell out of bed. I wasn’t wearing anything either.
“So, those were your sisters,” said Lord Gerome. “Cute kids and stubborn too.”
I was waaaay to tired for this. I grabbed my dressing gown and flung it on and snarled, “Where are they! What have you done with them!” It was as if my mind had caught fire. I thought I saw Ger boy wince but I was already heading out the door.
“Oh, there safe enough,” Ger smiled as something invisible caught me by the throat, not strangling, not yet but the warning was there. “They’re back in their room where they belong… and I’ve had the window on the bungalow repaired.”
I started, pausing on the threshold, my hand going to my throat instinctively.
– And I thought this sort of thing only existed in the movies. I wonder, is George Lucus a Gate Ganger? – Sometimes my warped sense of humor refuses to lie down and be still.
“I didn’t give you permission to leave,” Ger boy growled. A growl didn’t suit his voice.
“And I should care because?” I snarled and plowed onward; grimly fighting whatever it was every step of the way. Fortunately, I didn’t have to struggle to long or hard. The twin’s room is just down the hall from mine. I slammed the door open and relaxed a touch. They were both fine and fast asleep. Relieved I shut the door quietly and allowed the whatever-it-was to pull me back.
I paused in the door, feeling weird.
