I woke up with an attractive thirty something many taking my pulse.
I tried to sit bolt upright and wincing, slumped back with a moan.

“You’re…?”

“Lie still, my lady. Your body still has a great deal of recovering to do… though you’re healing nicely. As to your other questions, it’s 9 o’clock at night and your mother is out again. Though your brother and sisters are still home. Your brother is in his bungalow and your sisters are watching T.V.”

“You’re that guy’s doc…?”

“Yes. I’m Doctor Marcus Tetsumi and entered Lord Gerome’s service when I finished med school. His family paid my tuition you see.”

“Figures…and m’ names Nick…’m not a m’lady.”

“Oh, forgive me. I understood his Lordship added you to his staff a yesterday. I was ordered to treat you as I would a lady of the house.”

“Sheesh, typical. Look, don’t worry ‘bout it. No matter what he says, ‘m Nick. How’d…?”

“…I get in? Don’t worry. The front door was open, so I let myself in. Your mother was already out and your younger sisters didn’t notice me. His Lordship was right to send me. You’re a mess.”

“Heh, no joke. Guess I took some serious wearing down before I was finally mulched and captured. They hammered me real good.”

“They did that alright. According to the little healer in the Mother House, inside your mind is as torn up as your body. Unfortunately, I can’t touch that. What you need right now, Miss Nick, is rest. Your body has been sleep deprived and pushed far passed it’s limits... Not to mention being beaten and abused. The little healer was quite worried for you when you disappeared. Everyone is curious to know how you did that.”

“I’d love to know too.”

“His Lordship will around to check on you soon. For now, it is my advice to both of you to let you rest. If my information is correct, you have a LOT of rest to catch up on.”

“Tell him to stay clear of my family… or else… also, don’t just invite yourself into our home. When you need to see me, I’ll come to you. I wanna keep my family out of this as much as possible.”

“I see. Fair enough. Unfortunately, his Lordships orders take precedence over yours.”

“Heh. Well see. Nggg.”

“I don’t doubt it. Go back to sleep Miss Nick. I will see you again in a day or two.”

“Right. G’night doc,” and I was out again like a light.
