Just day to day thoughts every now and then...
August 31/08
You know what's a good movie? "Thank You For Smoking". What's so good about it? Well, first of all, despite the title and what some people might think, it's not advocating smoking at all. What it is, is a brilliant satire with a message about truth and freedom of choice. Sure it's got the laughs, but there's more there.

And the actors and actresses are excellent, Aaron Eckhart does a particularly good job of portraying Nick Naylor, someone who would be considered a villain by all acounts, and yet, I found myself rooting for him all through the movie. Much like I found myself connecting with Chris Cooper's performance as Robert Hanssen in Breach, an undeniable villian (a traitor, no less) and yet, by the end of the movie, you just can't help but feel for him.

I don't enjoy comedies very often, however, this movie is an exception. I tend to find comedies drawn out and failing to meet up to my expectations by just not entertaining me or being plain stupid. This movie doesn't fit that description. Every time I watch it, it makes me chuckle (I'm not one for laughing aloud much). I think what I like about it is that it is a comedy, it is funny, but there's more to it than that and I think it's more sophisticated than your average comedy.

Anyway, I think everyone should see this movie, it's excellent. I'll caution you, it's rated R, so don't try and rent it if you're under 18.
