What You Need To Know About Life
More Specifically, Mine.
I'm Just a Fan Girl
I'm sure I’m not going to be the first to complain about the blatant mistreatment of the fanthreads of the GCD tonight, but that doesn’t mean I'm not going to.

To put it quite frankly, we're pissed. We're very, very pissed. Not only was our thread, Edmund's Sexy Party, moved to Friends Chat, a forum that doesn't permit long discussions,
we were moved because other threads broke the rules. Not ours.
Rather than doing their jobs and sorting through the threads and moving or deleting the ones that were off-topic, the GCD mods threw every fanthread in a pile, shoved them into Friends Chat,
and told us that that's where we all belonged.

Many of the thread owners and members have PMed the mods, as they suggested, to discuss our “options” with them. Our “options” so far have been to either just be happy with being crammed in Friends Chat, or abandon our threads and their long histories and just start over in Gaia Community Projects,
so long as we promise not to have really long, in-depth discussions.

I could list all the things that were mishandled about this situation, explain that if any of us had just been contacted prior to being so unceremoniously dumped off in an inappropriate and completely different forum we would have worked with them to “restructure” our first posts, axe the memberlists, or anything else they claimed made us unfriendly to the GCD.
I could b***h and moan about how, if they'd just bothered to contact us, or done their jobs and dealt with the threads individually from the start, or bothered themselves with listening to our feedback about the best compromise to this very issue and just given us the friggin' sub-forum, this wouldn't be such a problem.

But that, of course, would be a waste of time and would only serve to point out how seriously pissed off we all are.

I for one have come to the conclusion that the only solution to this is to create a sub-forum where people can actually Discuss what's going on in the Gaian Community in an organized and sensible way, without having to create countless different repeat topics which are all essentially about the exact same thing, but without any in-depth or lasting discussion, and made to just fall into disuse after a day or two of posting.

It makes absolutely no sense to structure the GCD in a manner that promotes repeat threads with simple, "chit chat" posts that don't really discuss in any meaningful way the topic at hand rather than to have one, all inclusive thread that has regular posters that can answer most questions or misconceptions about the NPCs, the storyline, etc., and even provide any incoming speculator with links to all the relevant manga, mini comics, provide screen caps of NPC quotes from past events,
or have on the first page screen caps, descriptions, and information about every phase of an evolving item [let's not forget the EI fanthreads that were thrown into this mess, too].

The forums are supposed to be our last refuge from everything that is changing about Gaia. The forums—the “CORE” of Gaia—is being ruined right in front of me, and I for one am really ******** pissed about that.

But, if the mods want to set up the GCD to be overrun by repeat threads that could never offer as much information as a “permanent” thread, then so be it. But don't try to kill our thread to do it.
Don't shove us in Friends Chat or offer to herd those of us that demand fair treatment into another forum that isn't suited to us or discussions.

Give us our own home. Give us a sub-forum, made to discuss the Gaia storyline, its plots, events, its characters, and their interactions with each other, and all those other things about the Gaian Community that we've become accustomed to Discussing within the GCD.

Actually, I think we deserve our own main forum at this point, because any forum that exists to serve "general, Gaia-themed chit chat" cannot be more worthy of being a main forum than one that promotes in-depth, lasting discussions about the Gaian Community,
but what do I know? I'm just a fangirl.

Okay Steph, I understand this is the rough draft but I think you mention everyone being pissed off a bit too much. Knowing Lanzer, he's not going to have the time to read over all of this.

I think the main points of this need to be that had the thread owners been warned, they would have gladly changed, although the changes suggested are no different than what the on-topic threads already have.

Also, it's not fair that these threads that discuss an aspect of the Gaia Community are being booted off to another forum for supposedly breaking the rules, when in tis new forum it's 'okay' to break the rules with long discussion.

Some of these threads have been considered Community Resources, so why has tht changed now?

[[How about this version, then? And bear in mind, I'm not going to completely de-emphasize the level of offense I'm taking from all of this.]]

I'm sure I’m not going to be the first to complain about the blatant mistreatment of the fanthreads of the GCD tonight, but that doesn’t mean I'm not going to.
To put it quite frankly, we're really, really pissed. Not only was our thread moved to Friends Chat, a forum that doesn't permit long discussions, we were moved because other threads broke the rules, not ours.

Let me emphasize this point: we were moved from the Gaia Community Discussion, where we Discussed the Gaian Community, to Friends Chat, where we’re not allowed to have discussions.
We were removed from a forum whose rules we followed and tossed into a forum whose rules we break just by being there.
Some of those threads have even been linked to as community resource threads!

Many of the thread owners and members have PMed the mods, as they suggested, to discuss our “options” with them. Our “options” so far have been to either just be happy with being crammed in Friends Chat, or to abandon our threads and their long histories and just start over in Gaia Community Projects,

I could list all the things that were mishandled about this situation. I could explain that 1.) if any of us had just been contacted prior to being so unceremoniously dumped off in an inappropriate and completely different forum we would have worked with the mods to “restructure” our first posts, axe the memberlists, or anything else they claim made us unfriendly to the GCD, or 2.) that we would have adjusted more easily to being given our own, appropriate, discussion-friendly sub-forum, or 3.) that the mods should have done their job and taken the time to sort through the threads and see which ones were violating the rules and which ones weren’t instead of pretending we're all off-topic hang-out threads while admitting that we aren't and punishing us all just the same.

But that, of course, would be a waste of time and would only serve to point out how seriously upset we all are.

The staff often says, when users complain about corporate Gaia and things becoming so commercialized, that the Core of Gaia is still there. Well, from where I sit, the Core of Gaia is being taken away from me.
And I’m not happy about that.

Don't shove us in Friends Chat or offer to herd those of us that demand fair treatment into another forum that isn't suited to us or Discussions either.

Give us our own home. Give us a sub-forum, made to discuss the Gaia storyline, its plots, events, its characters, and their interactions with each other, and all those other things about the Gaian Community that we've become accustomed to Discussing within the GCD.

That's a lot better. It makes it seem like the forum you're wanting to be made is in fact the GCD, but as of now Gaian Community Discussion is limited to what Gaians (really, only those who frequent the GCD) ask other Gaians about certain things; basically 'what if' threads, or "I was doing something and it reminded me of Gaia. What do you think?"

It looks like we need clear definitions of both what makes up the Gaian Community and a fanthread. Fanthreads done right are not threads where people who share one interest talk about a ton of others. A fanthread is information and discussion centered around one particular subject, and one would think that if that subject deals with Gaia, in particular its plot or a Gaian character, in belongs in the GCD.

Items I'm not sure of. No, we don't need a hundred of threads just saying 'I like hermes moon', but I would think a thread that has a list of evolutions and concepts behind one, certain, or all evolving items, would not be a chat thread so much as a speculation and discussion thread. Which, again, belongs in the GCD.
