Singing Bean
You know how they'll talk about Chinese peeps (generally women) singing when they're in various not so happy situations? And about women in general doing the same thing (haven't heard about men doing it yet)? (references from various books mainly historical fiction)

Now you think I'm racist, huh? Or sexist. Well, I'm half Chinese and I'm female, so suck it up. This is about me not the rest of the women or Chinese people out there. Or men for that matter.

Anyway, I've found that this thing about the singing may bear some truth. If I'm stressed or troubled by something I sing. I generally wait until I'm alone or in the shower, actually. I'm not big on singing in front of people. The voice is not so pretty. But I've noticed that the more troubled I am the louder I sing.... which is a tad dangerous when you're bawling your lungs out in the shower at 1:00 AM or some other ungodly hour ~ people don't necessarily want to be awakened by such a thing.

It's kind of interesting, really. Singing does make me feel better ~ maybe not after I stop but while I'm singing I feel better. I can focus on the words of the song and drown out everything else with the sound. It really is like forcefully squashing my troubles and worries into a box and weighing down the lid with the music.

I never used to sing. It's not that I was totally floaty and happy or anything like that. More like an absence of emotional extremes towards happiness or sadness/anger that would make me sing. There wasn't an urge to sing because I didn't feel. Honestly, I like singing. I don't necessarily appreciate the feelings that cause me to sing but I do like singing itself.
