Stuff And Stuff, Man.
Murder
Whispering air hummed over the shambled roof.

Within the ancient manor, the two lay silent, absorbed in one another. Hushed breaths, drawn slowly and peacefully, drifted below the sound of the wind outside. The frosty dawn had broken and the manor became alive with streams of dancing orange sunlight.

Maki arose, lifting himself on the heels of his hands, blinking his tired eyes open at the pale body beside him. Still asleep. Nicolai was laying perfectly still, almost as a photograph before his eyes. The new dawn's light glinted off the jet strands of hair that lay strewn about his face. Sleeping beauty, Maki thought. How sweet.

His mind came back to the night that had just passed. Nicolai spent the dark hours in his arms, screaming silently, in fits of sorrow and tears so many that it seemed they would turn to blood soon. So many confessions were made, so much pain exchanged, and one promise alone had made the night- 'I will take away your pain.'

Take away his pain? he thought, reaching his hand over to brush Nicolai's hair aside. His cheeks still seemed a bit flushed from crying, and it served as so much more of a reminder of his promise.

I can't ever let him cry again.

He recalled the knife from the past night, with which Nicolai had mercilessly slashed at his arms before he had arrived. It was there upon the old victorian nightstand, still a little caked with his blood. The sight stung him, but at the same time, something arose, some sort of tingle at the thought of it. Vampire thirst? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe it was fear, or maybe it was excitement. His blood surged. He'd never defend himself. It would be easy. One deft movement and it would be over. The pain, the tears, the bloodshed in the name of peace.

All over.

Carefully, bringing himself over Nicolai with the help of a vampire's stealth, he grasped the blade firmly and set himself over his lover's body. He came down slowly, resting each knee on either side of his legs. Adjusting his hands over the handle of the knife, he held the blade close to his own heart, and closed his eyes in a moment of thought.

'This will mean I can never see him again', he thought, fighting a tremble that threatened to reveal him to his love. 'Once I do this, our love is over, and I'll be alone again. I won't be able to hold him or comfort him ever again.' His eyes opened slowly, meeting with Nicolai's sleeping face.

'....... But I can't bear to see him like this, in so much pain day in and day out...'

He raised his clenched fist, holding it high, and with teeth gritting and eyes welling up with tears, he brought the blade down with thunderous force. It ground furiously against Nicolai's sternum, piercing through and tearing at his heart. The force bent against the knife, and as it reached its limit the blade snapped, twisting off inside of him, forcing Maki's hands to slide madly to the left. The handle flung from his hands onto the bed and bounced to the floor with a clack.

Nicolai's eyes shot open as blood began to stream from the wound, where the steel blade was still imbedded in his heart. His breath stolen, his hands grasped desperately at the bed, tearing into the sheets with his fingernails. His lungs convulsed, a sputtered breath escaped his lips, withdrawing in a choked gasp. Frightened eyes met Maki's, begging of him something, as if pleading to take it back.

Maki felt the burn of tears meet his own. Shakily he bent down to him, reaching his arms underneath him and clasping his body against his own. He felt Nicolai tremble against him, the life slowly draining from him.

Nicolai's lips quivered against Maki's cheek. "Ma.... Maki............"

A few short breaths followed, fading into silence, and he fell limp in Maki's arms.
