It's not what it looks like, I swear.
And that just what you know
Joining the armed forces.
In the next few days, I'll be talking with the armed forces about possible enlistment for either the Air Force or the Navy, and then I'll have to ponder on what I want to do. I'm strongly leaning towards joining one or the other, but I still need time to decide.

Additionally, come Tuesday, I might be moving in with my mom to see if I'd rather be there or at home untill I can get on my own, which means I may be interwebless for a couple days.

If I do join the armed forces, I would be subject to boot camp, which means 2 months offline - this is a feat that I would rather not do, but it's the only way to get the benifits of non-civilian life. I'll be getting a 1 month fully paid vaction, so I might be going to Disneyland or Universal Studios with my family once boot camp's over.

This won't be an overnight process, as it takes a number of months after signing the dotted line to even get me started, so you guys will be stuck with me untill then.
wink

Usually, I wouldn't even consider this type thing, but it turns out that I get free medical, dental, housing, college, ect. during my time of service (which is a 4 year, I believe.) This should be a great way to get me going in my own life, and hopefully shift my career into high gear in time.

Actually, I was thinking about this very thing recently, as I don't have any idea on what I want to do with my life. But I know a little thing about the Navy.

You see, an old friend of my brother's had enlisted in the Navy as an underwater welder and diver of some sort because he had no other prospects about 4 or so years ago. He did well at it, made a good name for himself, and got into an exclusive group of divers. He got the same benefits, as well as having his schooling paid for whenever he decided to go to college. He went and re-enlisted last year and was promptly handed a check for $60,000! Apparently, it surprised him to no end, and he'll get more money if he re-enlists in the next couple years. I don't know too much about the Navy, but it's now a possibily for me.

Of course, the Air Force also offers the same benefits, and it's great for technical-minded people like you. Plus, if you train enough, you can become a commercial airline flyer, which does pay a lot of money if you become a Captain, not to mention the added bonus of being able to set your own schedule at that rank.

I suppose it really depends on what kind of person you are. Would you enjoy being near the ocean for several months or flying in a plane for endless hours once you get out of boot camp?

@Ben :: Yeah, I know xD

@Wes :: Well, I understand that even though there is some air training, most is dealing in the selected job (in my case, Information Technologies). Though it'd be pretty cool to have a licence to fly and whatnot.

This is kind of random, I saw your profile guide thingy so...

Anyways my second oldest sister is in the Air force and my step dad is in the army, I dont really know anything about the navy though. I guess it depends on what you do. My sister works with computers and those type of things and her job isent really that hard though from what I can tell. So whichever you pick good luck! wink
