Part I: Chapter 3
*Sane rides up beside Kari and looks over at her. She looked even more beautiful as the sun shone on her. San smiles and looks the other way before Kari can spot him looking at her again. Sane sighs and looks up at the sky for a second. He looked back at Kari and smirked* I can't believe those villagers looked at you that way... I see no problem with you, yet I must admit... People do have closed minds sometimes.

::She smiled and looked down:: Humans fear what they do not understand. ::she turned to him suddenly, realizing what she had just said:: I did not mean it in reference to you, only... ::she stopped, realizing she was stumbling, and turned her gaze away, her cheeks flushing shamefully::

*Sane smiled. She looked even cuter when she blushed* It's alright... I know what you meant... It is true, Humans do fear what they don't understand... Yet on my travels I found out that its a wonderful thing to be diffrent, because you know things other's don't and you can teach them you ways... *Sane looks over to his left to see a deer running across a small clearing* It's so peaceful here...

::She relaxed and her face cooled once more. He was so understanding...Her eyes fell on the deer as well, soon followed by a doe and her fawn, then by a few rabbits. She smiled:: This is the Emerald Wood. Legend says that the first Elves lived in this forest, born upon Nature's breast. They birthed the magic that still lingers here... ::She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, smiling:: Can you feel it? The spirits of the forest... dancing through the trees... Can you sense them?

*Sane raises an eyebrow. He wanted to feel what she felt... What she just talked about... He closed his eyes aswell and relaxed a bit... He felt something not knowing what it is. It gripped his mind a bit kind of like a spell. A feeling of peace and harmony spread through his body. When he finally opened his eyes he felt at peace with everything* I think I know what you mean Kari... I think I know what you mean. *Sane smiles as he looks at Kari with her eyes still closed*

::She smiled, opening her eyes and turning to him, her eyes shining brightly with excitement. She could feel the magic of her ancestors surging through her body, caressing her mind and putting her at ease. The forest was alive with it:: Come on, I'll race you! ::she laughed and her stallion took off, knowing her thoughts as was the connection Elves had with animals. They raced ahead, not looking back, galloping through the forest, jumping logs and finally splashing through a river, sending a flock of small white birds into the sky. When they arrived on the other side of the river, Kari was laughing joyfully and out of breath, as was her mount::

*Sane surprised by Kari's request kicked his horse into action a bit late falling behind a bit. But it wasn't too long before he caught up with Kari on the other side of a river. She was laughing so full of joy. He was glad suddenly that he decided to go with her. She filled his heart with joy. Sane trots up beside her and laughs* Hey that wasn't fare you got a head start...

::Kari managed to catch her breath enough to reply:: Well, then a rematch tomorrow! ::The sun had almost set and night was creeping into the sky. The elf girl turned her gaze to it and closed her eyes as a gentle breeze played through her hair:: Night is approaching. We should save the horses. This is a good place to rest. ::She opened her eyes again and flashed him a kind smile before moving to her stallion and removing the cloth pad she used in place of a saddle and took off his bridle, hanging them on a branch. He moved to the river's edge and began to drink, then moved off into the grass to graze. Kari knelt at the water as well, cupping her hands and getting a long slow drink from the pure water::

*Sane takes off his horses saddle and bridle setting them down at the base of a tree. His horse runs off to the river taking a drink from it and then going to graze just liek Kari's did. Sane smiles and goes over to the water kneeling down he splashes it on his face. He goes over to his bundle which he set down next to the saddle and takes out a deerskin canteen. He takes a sip of teh wine that's inside and looks at Kari.* Would you care to try some of this maybe? *Sane grins and sits down at the base of the tree his head proped up against the trunk*

::Kari stood and walked over to him, sitting down next to him with her back against the tree. She took the canteen and sniffed it before tasting it's contents. Her nose wrinkled and she handed it back to him:: I'd prefer water, thank you. ::She opened up the white cloth and broke off some of the bread and jerky, holding it out to him:: Here, supper. ::It didn't take her very long to gather wood for a fire. There conveniently was plenty nearby to make a nice-sized campfire. After stacking up the wood, Kari aimed her palm at the lumber and a fireball shot from her palm, lighting up the stack. She grinned and sat back down next to Sane::

*Sane takes the bread and jerky from her taking a small bite. He was used to eating little on his travels. He raised an eyebrow at how Kari lit the campfire. He's seen magic before but was still a bit impressed.* That's very nice! I never knew that you did magic like this... I too know something. Not a very good spell but it works. Sane mutters something and a ball of light appears in his hand.* A friend I met on my travels told me of this spell It's supposed to light your way... But other than that it's pointless... I like your kind of magic better. *Sane closes his hand and the light disperses. He takes one last sip from his canteen and puts it back in his bundle. He takes out his dagger... The one his father made for him... And starts to sharpen it with a sharpening stone from his bundle as well.* I'm glad I came with you Kari... you're a wonderful person to have as a friend... *Sane smiles*

::Kari turned to him and smiled kindly:: I'm glad you came with me. Your company will make the journey much more enjoyable. You are a good friend. ::She turned back to her hand and a fireball appeared in it, smaller this time. She played with it, making it dance above her palm:: It's one of the reasons I was so rejected. No Elf has ever had control of fire. Water, wind, and earth, yes. But not fire, the dark element. It scares people. ::She smiled:: But I like it. It's so beautiful... So warm, and graceful... ::She gently closed her hand and the flames faded. Kari looked back to Sane:: We should rest. It is late. ::With that, she shed her boots and weapons, but kept her shirt and cloak. The night was brisk, even with the fire. She leapt up into a tree and found a thick branch that seemed made for her body. It was even wide enough that she could lie down without fear of falling. She wrapped her cape tightly about her and curled up on the branch, drifting off to sleep::

*Sane bid Kari good night and took off his vest and pants keeping only his shirt and boxers. Out of his bundle he pulled out a thin blanket which he threw over his body as he curled up under the tree and fell fast asleep. Dreaming... perhaps of Kari.*
