What Ri has against psychological/horror anime.
It started with stuff like Boogiepop Phantom. More recently, Elfen Lied and Higurashi-whatever it's called. These shows are becoming more and more prevalent and what they seem to offer is a deep show, intelligent content and... people tearing each other apart.

WHAT?

Now, I've never seen one of these shows through to the end because-- and some people think I'm an idiot for this, but on the contrary it shows that I'm intelligent-- if I don't like a show, I stop watching it. So maybe I'm a bit misinformed. But all I see is a very mediocre attempt at creating something thought-provoking and attracting people to it with pointless violence and/or nudity.

I hope I'm not the only one who sees this stuff and thinks what utter s**t it is, and part of me dies when someone posts either how deep Elfen Lied is or "how much tehy liek teh blood n gore!!lolz". Now, I don't mind pointless violence and such. But only when it DOESN'T TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY. These kinds of shows I mentioned try and fail miserably to create an intelligent product when they could just be creating something fun. The only series I saw that has done it right was Akira, and then only the manga.

Oh, and I hate tragic/sad shows with lots of death. That probably helps.

Either way, I can't wait until this fad is over and we get to the newest slew of anime about whatever people will think it's cool to watch. Maybe I'll get lucky and there'll be an "old school" craze.
