- Avoid scratching with your pencil (the back-and-forth movement). All it ever does is make your drawing look messy. You seem to have started drawing this without knowing your darkest dark and lightest light on the picture and because of your drawing's hasty personality, it looks like a 2D drawing. Always make a mental note where the shadows (core, object, etc) and lights (highlight, low-light, reflected light, etc) fall on your pieces.
