and the subject of the photo is a strange plant that we call in our native language the "Katakataka "(which is equivalent to weird,strange, something to wonder in English) Plant.
It is strange, because as you can see on the photo budding leaves are growing on the full grown leaves of the plant itself. Take a look at the reference image for a different angle shot
