• The air is permeated, with the sweet scent of pies.
Family all around preparing to give hugs, and Hi's.
A stronger scent lingers in the air.
Turkey, so good, you whisper, "I'm so there."

The table is long, and wide.
Under it, the young children hide.
Stacked with dishes you can only stare.
You remember you have to do dishes. "That's not fair."

The turkey is done, the pies are set.
You hurry for the best seat you can get.
The turkey is a crispy light brown.
    Even Scrooge couldn't frown.

The turkey is carved, even jumps to dig in.
But your mom stops them, and puts her hands to her chin.
This is where thanks is given, with family all around.
This is when the carver is crowned.

This holiday of holidays is one we covet most.
You want to know why? Because all your family is close.
    At least for one day.
Your family is gathered to stay.
