Once upon a midlight hour
The sun refused to rise
The masquerade ball spun on and on
While the world turned to ice
Women arabesqued in their diamons and silks
and kissed beneath the mistletoe
as a child stumbles out onto the veranda
and with one step, dances toward death
The blood on the pavement painted a new red carpet
melted the surrounding snow
stained new rouge for its' cheeks
and the stars cried their tears with the acid rain
Watch the blossoms falter and tumble
The weight of the dew too great
Drifting slowly to the ocean
They swim with the foam that rises from the shore
And she sleeps beneath that willow with her rosebud smile in bloom
and breaths a rythmic lullaby while hiding crystal eyes
Golden curls curtaining her face and plumps cheeks so pale
+ The poetry of ages dying fresh on her infant tongue +
He glows beneath the fountain with its pennies all alight
Sighs, whispers, spreads his dark wings
and enchants the babe so innocent to join him in his flight
That porcelain child of beauty
Sing carols for the everlasting eve
But kiss her goodbye no sooner than Christmas
As was said before, the sun will not rise
And the land will soon be covered in ice
Hear them laugh and toast with fine wine and tart
see how they sparkle underneath the yuletide trees
As the child stumbles onto the veranda
and with one glazed smile
with those crystal Jade eyes
-Waltzes to eternity.-

Description:
Set in the time of winter, a christmas themed masquerade ball is being held for all the village to enjoy. One lonely child walks out onto the landing and falls off to her death. No one notices and she is left for a time, bleeding in the snow while her soul is lifted up by an angel of death. She is the child of the future, and our only hope as humanity is lost with her last breath.
Not much of a Christmas poem, but it's one of my best. I hope you like it all the same. - Date: 12/13/2008
