• Bidding farewell to his lady
    The tin-man goes to battle.
    She watches him walk away
As his stiff joints clink and rattle.

Though her glass eyes shed no tears
The seams of her heart come undone.
She is only a bundle of cloth
When her toy soldier is gone.

He dares not look back to her
    Should his willpower waste
And he return to loving arms
    And her sweetly gentle embrace.

    Tommy sets up his soldiers
    So they surround their foe,
    To rescue his sister’s doll,
And return with victory in tow.
