Moonlight Knight appears only for the first half of Sailor Moon R, when Usagi (Serena) wished to be a normal girl at the end of the first series and everyone's memories were hidden, including Mamoru's (Damien). Mamoru subconsciously still wanted to protect Usagi, thus Moonlight Knight was born. Once Mamoru recovered his memory though, Tuxedo Mask returned, and Moonlight Knight was put on the back burner permanently.
