In the Norse Mythology, Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is considered holy and resembles the world.
Its branches reach far into heaven and its three big roots go down to Jötunheim, Niflheim and Asgard.
As "axis mundi" it connects the three plains: Heaven, Underworld and this world. Yggdrasil is said to be the first tree that was planted by the Asen - who created everything material. - Date: 06/02/2009
