His research, lab and face were destroyed when he accidentally took a piece of evidence against notorious mobster Robert Durant from his lawyer girlfriend. His nerves severed and on a constant rush of adrenaline, Westlake uses what's left of his research to become Darkman, and exact revenge on his would-be killers.
