- Description: The story of Bastet has been changed through out history as well as her form. She was once shown as a lion and then over time into a cat. Bastet was revered by the egyptians as the goddess of war and the protector of crops. Roughly between 2040 BC and 1640 BC idols very much like this one showing Bastet as a caring mother with kittens were often used during the time of the middle kingdom in hopes that the family would be blessed in becoming a parent.
