The waves crash around an ordinary pirate. She smiles confidently as the waves lash in sequence with her whip. She readies her dagger eying the ship as it comes closer. There she is waiting...in the middle of the ocean. Nothing more solid than seaweed and your ship for miles around. You swerve, the ship tips and crashes into a reef. As you sink to your watery grave you look one last time...but she was never there.
