- Title: After Death: Mermaid Edition
- Artist: Misa Kenate
- Description: When a mermaid reaches the end of its life, the body begins to return from whence it came. Hair: now the seaweed she played in. Skin: now the sea foam she bathed in. Essence: distilled to its purest form, nourishing the very swells of water that gave her life. I’ve always wondered if it was painful, the eyes are always the last to go. The look of sorrow yet contempt never sat right with me. One thing is for certain, they are always very striking creatures, even beyond their last breaths.

- @ addledwalrus That’s a lovely compliment! It’s really cool to hear your perspective of the piece. The description is from a humans perspective, documenting the death of a mermaid. It’s meant to highlight the fact that we can perceive this moment and come up with our own conclusions, yet we don’t know what the mermaid experienced. How did she get there? Was it a sad moment? A happy one? Who knows. That’s what makes it so beautiful.
