Day into night, and night to day:<br />
As twilight fades, the sun gives way<br />
To moonlit grace, so still, so deep,<br />
Adorned by starry gown asweep.<br />
She rules across the midnight hour,<br />
And watches from her sleepy bower,<br />
Until the touch of dawn at play<br />
Comes soft, to banish her away.<br />
<br />
Night into day, and day to night:<br />
The dawning breaks. Darkness takes flight<br />
Before the swiftly rising wing:<br />
The brightness of a glorious king.<br />
Across the endless, arching sky,<br />
He rides, he strides . . . only to die<br />
Once more as dusk reveals its face<br />
And snuffs sun's light without a trace.<br />
<br />
Day into night, and night to day,<br />
They pass but never reach. They stay<br />
Within their worlds, two lights apart . . .<br />
Yet there's a stirring in each heart<br />
To meet, to know the other's soul—<br />
To make, at last, a brighter whole.<br />
But day and night, each rules alone,<br />
Sovereign of one divergent throne.<br />
And only twice they make one light:<br />
Night into day, and day to night.<br />
